Conference on Science, Religion and World Peace: A tribute to Srila Prabhupada (Album with photos)
\nRamanuja das: \u201cYou may be knowing that we have formed one party of scientists under the leadership of Sriman Svarupa Damodara prabhu. Also we have formed the Bhaktivedanta Institute for organizing scientific presentations of Krishna Consciousness. This party is our most important preaching arm \u2026. Therefore I have got great hope for Svarupa Damodara and his colleagues. I want them to travel vigorously throughout the world to lecture in all universities and other institutions.\u201d (SP Letter to Amarendra, Bombay, 2 April, 1977)
\nKeeping these words of Srila Prabhupada as the source of inspiration, Bhaktivedanta Institute, Karnal, organized a one day conference on \u2018Science, Religion and World Peace\u2019 on the 4th November, 2017 at Government Degree College Auditorium, Dharamshala (Himachal Pradesh), India. His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama, Nobel Laureate in Peace, presented the Keynote Lecture for the conference. Present at the conference were more than 600 students (from schools, Colleges and Universities) and delegates from 22 countries altogether numbering to more than 900 delegates including Scientists, teachers from various Universities and Institutes and Tibetan Buddhist Monks. His Holiness addressed the participants saying that the young generation of this 21st century can make a difference by giving more importance to compassion in order to bring about World Peace by properly utilizing the intelligence\u2026 and this is only possible if we go back to the ancient cultural roots (Vedic culture) of India\u2026 so the Indian youths have got a very important responsibility.<\/p>\n
The words of the Dalai Lama echoed the very essence of Krishna Consciousness bharata bhumite haila manusya janma yara, janma sarthaka kori koro para upakara. Other prominent speakers at the event were Professor P. B. Sharma, President Association of Indian Universities; Professor S. Ghosh, IIT Kharagpur; K. Vasudeva Rao, President Bhaktivedanta Institute; Ven. Kalon, Minister of Religion and Culture, Central Tibetan Administration and Dr. N. Tri Astawa, Dept. of Internal Medicine, Udayana University, Bali, Indonesia. Points raised during the talks included integration of human values and ethics within modern technology, the importance of practicing spirituality within the lives of scientists as well as students, the meaning and purpose of life or Life Comes From Life. More than a thousand plates of sumptuous mahaprasad were served at the lunch break. A panel discussion was conducted on the topic \u2018Benefits of synthesizing Science and Spirituality in Modern Education\u2019. A poster making contest and a slogan writing contest were also held for students from 9th to 12th standard just to encourage them to be part of the conference. A nomadic dance by students from Tibetan Medical and Astro. College, Dharamshala and an Odishi Dance performance by the very young Krishna Priya enchanted the Participants. Students and teachers from various institutes came forward to assist in the registrations and many other services. <\/p>\n
All credits for the event goes to His Divine Grace A. C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada for his unlimited blessings and to His Holiness Bhaktisvarupa Damodara Swami (Dr. T.D. Singh), the visionary of the conference. We would like to thank Sri Prakash Angaria and Abhinandan Angaria for their constant support and for showing such high enthusiasm which was a key factor for the success of the event. Our heartfelt appreciation goes to all our volunteer friends who did wonderful service to make the event complete. We also thank all our sponsors and well-wishers for their help and support. Scientific knowledge engaged in the service of the Lord, artistic sense engaged in the service of the Lord, philosophical thesis engaged in the service of the Lord, physical laws engaged in the service of the Lord, chemical combination engaged in the service of the Lord and all similar activities are all factually \u2018Hari-kirtan\u2019 or glorification of the Lord.
