{"id":54078,"date":"2017-12-11T10:55:00","date_gmt":"2017-12-11T09:55:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/dandavats.tumblr.com\/post\/168424693946"},"modified":"2017-12-11T10:55:00","modified_gmt":"2017-12-11T09:55:00","slug":"srila-prabhupadas-tireless-pursuit-of-giving-krishna","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.dandavats.com\/?p=54078","title":{"rendered":"Srila Prabhupada\u2019s tireless pursuit of giving Krishna&#8230;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-54077\" src=\"http:\/\/www.dandavats.com\/wp-content\/uploads6\/tumblr_p0sjjodtNv1sbj0vuo1_500.jpg\" width=\"500\" height=\"607\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.dandavats.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/tumblr_p0sjjodtNv1sbj0vuo1_500.jpg 500w, https:\/\/www.dandavats.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/tumblr_p0sjjodtNv1sbj0vuo1_500-154x187.jpg 154w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 500px) 100vw, 500px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Srila Prabhupada\u2019s tireless pursuit of giving Krishna consciousness.<br \/>\nUdayananda: During the 1976 festival in Vrindavan, there was a whole schedule one day that started at mangal arotik and went all the way until midnight at a pandal program celebrating the Appearance of Lord Ram and attended by over twenty thousand people.<br \/>\nIt was very impressive.<br \/>\nFor me the day started blissfully as I got to go on a morning walk with Srila Prabhupada.<br \/>\nPrabhupada walked for a very long time preaching vigorously.<br \/>\nAt the beginning of the walk I was at the rear of the devotees, but after about an hour I finally ended up right next to Srila Prabhupada.<br \/>\nAt this point Prabhupada had to pass water so he turned and handed me his cane.<br \/>\nI took his cane and Prabhupada was handed a bottle of water to wash his hands.<br \/>\nHe went down into a little gully and did what nature called.<br \/>\nIn the meantime, I put the cane in my left hand and put my right hand in my japa bag to chant my rounds.<br \/>\nWhen Prabhupada returned, he reached for his cane and like a fool I started to hand it to him with my left hand.<br \/>\nPrabhupada said, \u201cLeft hand?\u201d<br \/>\nImmediately I thought, \u201cOh, I am an idiot, aren\u2019t I?\u201d<br \/>\nSo I put it in my right hand and handed it to Srila Prabhupada.<br \/>\nPrabhupada said, \u201cAlways right hand.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Immediately after the hour and a half walk, Prabhupada spent the rest of the afternoon with dignitaries who had come from New Delhi, such as the governor and state representatives.<\/p>\n<p>I was hanging outside Prabhupada\u2019s room listening and was amazed at how he was like a lion amongst lambs preaching vigorously.<\/p>\n<p>Then without rest, Prabhupada went to Mathura to give a lecture at the pandal program to the twenty thousand or so people.<\/p>\n<p>Prabhupada started the lecture by saying, \u201cBecause there are so many people here to hear Krishna\u2019s pastimes, and they may not speak English, I am going to speak in Hindi, and I apologize.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Prabhupada actually said, \u201cI apologize to my English speaking disciples\u201d, as if he ever had to apologize to us.<\/p>\n<p>What amazed me was not only Prabhupada\u2019s humility when he apologized to us, but my realization about the scene I observed while Prabhupada preached about Krishna and Lord Chaitanya.<\/p>\n<p>I looked around at the thousands of people there and the contingent of devotees from Africa, England, Australia, America, South America and remembered Bhaktivinode Thakur\u2019s query,<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhen will Americans and Englishmen and Germans come with their hands raised high and say, \u2018Jaya Sachinandana, Gaura Hari?\u2019<\/p>\n<p>When will that day come?\u201d I thought, \u201cThe day has come!\u201d<\/p>\n<p>I was thinking, \u201cPrabhupada, you did it! You have done this and now you\u2019re preaching to twenty thousand people and you were preaching to all these dignitaries all day long.<\/p>\n<p>You\u2019ve done it! You don\u2019t have to do anything else! You\u2019ve done it.<\/p>\n<p>You can just rest on your laurels.<\/p>\n<p>You don\u2019t need to push! You\u2019ve done it! You\u2019ve done it all!\u201d<\/p>\n<p>With Prabhupada\u2019s accomplishment, there was fanfare because he did an amazing, miraculous thing.<\/p>\n<p>The fanfare, however, had no affect on him, nor was he interested in that type of glorification.<\/p>\n<p>He was just interested in glorifying Krishna.<\/p>\n<p>By the time we got back to Fogel Ashram it was close to midnight.<\/p>\n<p>Everyone was completely exhausted.<\/p>\n<p>I felt like a zombie and on top of that I had gotten a little sick because I ate some jalebis in the marketplace and came down with a violent case of diarrhea.<\/p>\n<p>Every time I laid down to sleep, I had to go back to the restroom.<\/p>\n<p>It was really hellish.<\/p>\n<p>This went on for quite a while so I thought I might as well just stay up to chant my japa.<\/p>\n<p>I went down to the temple and it was close to two o\u2019clock in the morning.<\/p>\n<p>I was the only person around except for one devotee who was doing the twenty-four hour kirtan and he was laying on the mridanga barely hitting the drum and just muttering Krishna\u2019s name.<\/p>\n<p>I came out the front of the Krishna-Balaram temple and I started to circumambulate.<\/p>\n<p>As I came around the back of the temple, I was right next to Srila Prabhupada\u2019s room where I saw a light on.<\/p>\n<p>I reflected how Prabhupada had been preaching tirelessly since four o\u2019clock in the morning and now it\u2019s two o\u2019clock in the morning the next day.<\/p>\n<p>In his room, he had his dictaphone and I heard him say, \u201cSrila Visvanatha Chakravarti Thakur says in his explanation of the Gita\u2026\u201d Prabhupada was translating the Bhagavatam.<\/p>\n<p>I\u2019m thinking, \u201cWhy?
