Food for Life Global was founded in 1995 in Washington DC to serve as the headquarters and coordinating office for Food for Life projects worldwide.<\/p>\n
Background<\/p>\n
FOOD FOR LIFE is a nonprofit organization, bringing food and life to the needy of the world through the liberal distribution of pure vegetarian meals. The project started in 1974 when an elderly Indian swami, Srila Prabhupada, implored his yoga students not to allow anyone within a ten mile radius of his ashram to go hungry. The program grew quickly, and today Food for Life is active in over 50 countries worldwide.<\/p>\n
Over 1,000,000 meals daily!<\/p>\n
Volunteers serve more than 1,000,000 free vegetarian meals daily from free food restaurants & mobile kitchens in schools, villages, cities, and disaster areas, making FOOD FOR LIFE the largest vegetarian\/vegan food relief in the world.<\/p>\n
Community Based<\/p>\n
Food for Life Global volunteers are made up of vegans, vegetarians, and the socially conscious public. Food for Life Global is a non-sectarian organization. Everyone is welcome to participate in our community projects.<\/p>\n

* More than 500 million pure vegan and vegetarian meals served since 1974<\/p>\n
* Projects in more than 50 countries<\/p>\n
* Services include: food relief, nutrition education, animal sanctuaries, orphanages, medical care, organic farming, housing and disaster response.<\/p>\n
* Meals served by Food for Life projects cost on average: 15 – 20 cents each<\/p>\n
* No meat, fish, or eggs are used in any of our meals.<\/p>\n
