The original 5,000 grew into 400,000 Amish depending primarily on the land. They mainly run their own education system and have two thousand schools catering for their own young, staffed by members from their own communities. They hold onto their young people – up to 93% of the young adults decide to stay within the community.
\nPeople come to see it, leaving a yearly revenue of 2 billion dollars for their guided tours, to appreciate a social system that works.
