\u201cCan Lord Chaitanya wear a peacock feather?\u201d
\nJananivas: In 1973 we had just completed the lotus building in Mayapur. I went to Prabhupada\u2019s room and asked him,
\n\u201cCan Lord Chaitanya wear a peacock feather?\u201d
\nHe said, \u201cWhy not? He is Krishna.\u201d
\nI told him some of the Gaudiya Math people were complaining that Lord Chaitanya shouldn\u2019t wear a peacock feather.
\nSrila Prabhupada became very disappointed and he just looked down. He didn\u2019t say anything else.
\nI took it to mean that he was disturbed that his God-brothers always criticized him.
\nIn fact he wrote one letter, \u201cHow can they help when they only hinder us.\u201d It was an open letter.
\nMy understanding was that Prabhupada was wondering why they didn\u2019t see what he had accomplished?\u201d
\nHe picked us out of the gutter of material existence.
\nWe had shaved heads, we wore tilaka and dhotis and we were chanting Krishna\u2019s names.
\nIn other words, \u201cLook at what he\u2019d done rather than fault finding.\u201d<\/p>\n

Since that time I found new evidence where Lord Chaitanya is described with a peacock feather.<\/p>\n

In the Advaita Gauranga Maji by Advaita Acharya he gives the description of Mahaprabhu in meditation.<\/p>\n

In the description he says He has His sikhi-piccha, the peacock feather in His hair and another one over His ear. [laughs]\n

There is another in the nitya-lila of Mahaprabhu when after breakfast He goes with His friends on sankirtan.<\/p>\n

They see all the white cows and the peacocks and He corresponds with Vrindavan-lila when Krishna goes out with the cows in the morning.<\/p>\n

So he gets into His cowboy mood. [laughs]\n

So he starts calling out to all of His cows,<\/p>\n

\u201cAh, Shyama he, Dubala he, Ganga he, Yamuna he, come on.\u201d [laughs]\n

All the devotees would inquire, \u201cWhat\u2019s happening?\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cOh, He\u2019s in the mood of Krishna in Vrindavan.\u201d<\/p>\n

So they are all assuming the same mood as Him.<\/p>\n

They would pick up sticks and start twirling them around like cowboys do. \u201cHi, hi, hi, let\u2019s go up to Goverdhan.\u201d<\/p>\n

Nityananda Prabhu tends to have a Buffalo horn, \u201cWoo, woo, woo, Goverdhan he.\u201d<\/p>\n

In that description Lord Chaitanya wears a peacock feather.<\/p>\n

Also Prabhupada asked Malati mataji one time, “Why Lord Chaitanya is not wearing a peacock feather?\u201d<\/p>\n

She said, \u201cOh, He should be wearing?\u201d He said, \u201cYes.\u201d<\/p>\n

She asked, \u201cWhat about Nityananda Prabhu?\u201d<\/p>\n

He said, \u201cSometimes he could wear but Lord Chaitanya should always wear.\u201d<\/p>\n

So now we had guru, sadhu and shastra. It became a little bit controversial.<\/p>\n
