USA Hostels<\/strong><\/h2>\n

A hostel in downtown San Diego<\/strong><\/p>\n

Bhakta Pedro was first exposed to Krishna consciousness in Portugal, the country where he grew up. At one point he moved to the US where he spent the first couple of years traveling and enjoying himself. Eventually he settled down in Ocean Beach, one of the towns that make up the city of San Diego. There he lived and worked at the local youth hostel.<\/p>\n

During this period he again came in contact with devotees who revived his interest in spiritual life. Krishna consciousness became his passion so much so that he started to develop interest in missionary activities. When he asked how he could help expand Krishna consciousness in San Diego, Mahat-tattva Dasa told him about the Sastra Dana’s book rack program. Naturally Bhakta Pedro first thought of the hostel where he used to work and easily obtained permission from the managers to place a rack there.<\/p>\n

The second rack he placed in the “USA Hostels” in downtown San Diego. Bhakta Pedro knew the owner and he knew that this fellow was interested in India’s spiritual knowledge and culture. By the way, the hostel owner danced with us for several hours on the New Year’s Eve harinama. Here is a video of it. The owner is one of the two guys riding shoulders of their friends.<\/p>\n

The owner (I apologize, I can’t remember his name) enjoyed himself so much that he asked us to come to his hostel every week to sing, chant, and dance there for the upliftment of the spiritual atmosphere. Now almost every Friday when we go down town for harinama we swing by the hostel for a round of kirtana there, regularly drawing all the curious guests out of their rooms. Many guests join in the spiritual festivity while many more take pictures.<\/p>\n

We are now looking for a volunteer to look after this rack. Looking after a rack, or as we say it “managing a rack” involves simply restocking the rack with books once every few weeks.<\/p>\n

At the end we’d like to extend a special thanks to the Sastra Dana donors. By your practical mercy the boon of Krishna consciousness is being extended through the Sastra Dana channels to thousands of souls.<\/p>\n
