One who knows this tree is the knower of the Vedas.(BG 15.1)

When a man unites with a woman, he gives away some of his manliness to the woman who accommodates him. Men usually distinguish this experience as a loss of energy during sex. The sexual experience reflects not only in the union itself but in all activities thereafter. Most men tend to assume that their experience is the only valid one. A man may insist that a woman also have to lose her personality and merge with his all the time. But in the play of genders, there is always two sides to the story. Two individuals are supposed to merge and make a union which as a consequence creates its own personality. The woman’s role is less known. In the West, the cult of the Sun (the male aspect of ego) has overtaken the significance of the effects of the Moon (the feminine principle of nourishment). And, by the way, the Moon is twice the size of the Sun according to Bhagavata cosmology.

Like the Moon, women tend to act in a subtler ways than Sun-like men. They are like spies who prefer to stay behind the scenes. Through not being noticed they can go anywhere and do things undetected. This sense of quietness gives them flexibility and greater control in the subtle sense they like to work in. By going about their business with least amount of friction, they can access secret information.

While men mold their environment, women like the Moon mold the personalities of others. Women cannot be controlled by force. Even when they are forced to work like men, they will never give up their womanly role which gives them more control. If a man tries to restrict a woman, it means that he does not understand her nature. A man can only select a good woman and put his trust in her. Such a faithful woman will mold him in a way that is beneficial to him. Women intuitively understand what is to be done in this regard; it is impossible to force them. They may pretend to comply out of politeness, but their master Maya Devi is stronger than anyone. With her ten arms holding different weapons who can defeat her?

For a man it is only wise to understand the power of the women’s nature, and select the right life companion through a proper analysis of compatibility. When a spiritually advanced man selects a spiritual woman as his wife, he does not submit to the power of Mahamaya. Rather he comes under the control of Yogamaya, the energy that permeates the spiritual world. Willingness to be controlled by the energy of Shri Krishna means that the devotee begins to function in a spiritual capacity.

Now, during the advancing Golden Age of Kali Yuga, the female principle is gradually becoming more prominent. In this age, Shri Chaitanya Mahaprabhu has come in the mood of his beloved Shrimati Radharani. In other yugas when Shri Krishna personally killed the demons, the situation was clearer and more straight But in this age, the devotees who follow in the footsteps of Shri Chaitanya Mahaprabhu preach His message in more subtle ways. This gives them greater control. Those who have not realized that still act as if the female energy is to be ignored and is of lesser significance. But even Shrila Prabhupada seldom acted as the leader in the forefront. He always did things in such a way that outsiders thought that the Hare Krishna movement had sprung from thin air. Few still understand the all-pervasive significance of Shrila Prabhupada’s influence upon the whole world.

Those who want to be successful at this time should endeavor to understand the power of Shrimati Radharani, and try to come under Her control in order to be more effective in their service to Shri Krishna.

The demons are also trying to artificially inflate the female energy during this time. But due to limited understanding they try to match the energy of women to that of men. Persons born of demoniac tendencies only recognize the significance of male energy, and try to make women into men. Consequently they also try to make men into women in order to balance their invented social order. Such a mentality only reveals that a demonic person has but a limited and perverse understanding of spiritual energies. Though he may try to play with the energy, he ultimately cannot derive any lasting benefit of it. It is like a child playing with a toy truck and thinking he is driving a real truck or a girl with a doll believing she has a real baby.

The devotees should recognize the flaws of this sort of mentality because they mostly have come from demonic backgrounds. For many, barely one step separates them from falling back into a misguided demoniac lifestyle. One should understand how this world actually functions under the direction of the Supreme Lord and His personal energies, and how this world is a mere reflection of the spiritual world. Anything that exists in the spiritual world is reflected here—that which is up becomes down, that which is left becomes right. Whatever seems significant here is insignificant there. One must endeavor to understand the nature of this reflection by bending and expanding the consciousness, becoming purified, and coming under the dictum of Yogamaya.

Abhaya Mudra Dasi: The Blessed Lord said: There is a banyan tree which has its roots upward and its branches down and whose leaves are the Vedic hymns.
