Don\u2019t Give-up Hope!
\nDhirasanta Das Goswami: Once there was a man who decided to quit\u2026
\nHe quit his job, his relationship, and wanted to quit on life.
\nHe went to the woods to have one last talk with God.
\n\u201cGod\u201d, he asked, \u201cCan you give me one good reason not to quit?\u201d
\nGod\u2019s answer surprised him\u2026
\n\u201cLook around\u201d, God said. \u201cDo you see the fern and the bamboo?\u201d
\n\u201cYes\u201d, the man replied.
\n\u201cWhen I planted the fern and the bamboo seeds, I took very good care of them. I gave them light. I gave them water. The fern quickly grew from the earth. Its brilliant green covered the floor. Yet nothing came from the bamboo seed. But I did not quit on the bamboo.
\nIn the second year the fern grew more vibrant and plentiful. And again, nothing came from the bamboo seed. But I did not quit on the bamboo.\u201d
\n\u201cIn years three and four still nothing had come from the bamboo seed. But I would not quit.
\n“Then in the fifth year a tiny sprout emerged from the earth. Compared to the fern it was seemingly small and insignificant\u2026 But just 6 months later the bamboo rose to over 100 feet tall. It had initially spent five years growing roots. Those roots had made it strong and gave it what it needed to survive. I would not give any of my creations a challenge it could not handle.\u201d
\nHe then said. \u201cDid you know, all this time you have been struggling, you have actually been growing roots. I did not quit on the bamboo. I will never quit on you.\u201d
\n“Don\u2019t compare yourself to others. The bamboo has a different purpose than the fern. Yet they both make the forest beautiful. Your time will come, you will rise high.\u201d
\n\u201cHow high should I rise?\u201d the man asked.
\n\u201cHow high will the bamboo rise?\u201d God asked in return.
\n\u201cAs high as it can?\u201d the man questioned.
\n\u201cYes,\u201d He said, \u201cRise as high as you wish.\u201d
\nThe man left the forest and brought back this story telling everyone:
\n\u201cDon\u2019t tell the Lord how big the problem is, but tell Him how great He is for making us all individuals capable of fulfilling our own potential!\u201d
\nSrila Prabhupada did not arrive in the West to start his mission to fulfill the order of his spiritual master until the later stages of his life. However, prior to coming he had spent years in preparation in the form of prayer, writing and contemplation.
