{"id":6331,"date":"2008-08-28T16:47:35","date_gmt":"2008-08-28T15:47:35","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.dandavats.com\/?p=6331"},"modified":"2008-08-28T16:48:10","modified_gmt":"2008-08-28T15:48:10","slug":"after-the-sun-has-set","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.dandavats.com\/?p=6331","title":{"rendered":"After the Sun has set"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Karnamrita das:<\/p>\n<p>Now the Suns of Janmastami<br \/>\nand Vyasa puja have gone from<br \/>\nour sight and we have to keep<br \/>\nthe service attitude, inspiration and remembrance.<\/p>\n<p>Today is overcast, Grey skies<br \/>\nshowering torrents of rain,<br \/>\nfor some it&#8217;s depressing,<br \/>\nthough it is life giving.<\/p>\n<p>Since I grew up in foggy<br \/>\nSan Francisco, I never<br \/>\nassociate overcast skies with<br \/>\nanything negative or undesirable.<\/p>\n<p>Though I was depressed growing<br \/>\nup due to my painful family situation,<br \/>\nunderneath it was a sunny disposition<br \/>\nwhich took a loving wife to manifest.<\/p>\n<p>My childhood sadness, the precursor<br \/>\nwhich fostered my dormant spiritual connection,<br \/>\nbrought me to search for what was<br \/>\nmissing from my life\u2013Krishna.<\/p>\n<p>On this rainy, windy day I sit<br \/>\nin a place I have written in before&#8211;<br \/>\nthe tire shop, where I have my car worked<br \/>\non, while I look out the window, thinking.<\/p>\n<p>Living in the city<br \/>\nseparates us from<br \/>\nthe natural order of things<br \/>\nand our dependence on the Earth.<\/p>\n<p>We put our personal enjoyment<br \/>\nand convenience above what<br \/>\nsustains life<br \/>\nand is good for all.<\/p>\n<p>Basic requirements for life?<br \/>\nSun, air, and water come to mind,<br \/>\nyet no less important is the Earth<br \/>\nwhich roots the life giving plants and trees.<\/p>\n<p>Tending a garden makes this dependence<br \/>\nabundantly clear, seeing practically<br \/>\nhow these requirements for living work<br \/>\ntogether to sustain our life.<\/p>\n<p>So many factors<br \/>\nhave to combine to<br \/>\nproduce a healthy,<br \/>\nbountiful crop\u2013<\/p>\n<p>Ultimately it\u2019s Krishna, the unseen hand<br \/>\nbehind nature, and then the fertility of land,<br \/>\nsufficient sun and water,<br \/>\nand keeping away those hungry bugs<\/p>\n<p>I am not much of a farmer,<br \/>\nfor laziness sake admittedly,<br \/>\nthough I greatly dislike having to<br \/>\nkill the weeds and bugs.<\/p>\n<p>A good mulch helps, with<br \/>\nhealthy soil and plants,<br \/>\ntimely planting and natural sprays<br \/>\nto repel, and sometimes kill \u201cpests\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Necessity or survival changes everything\u2013<br \/>\nwhen we have to live on what we grow,<br \/>\nour attitude transforms from<br \/>\nwhimsy to dedication.<\/p>\n<p>If only I could see Bhakti<br \/>\nas the earth, water and air of<br \/>\nmy life, then I would always<br \/>\nchant and serve with intensity.<\/p>\n<p>Festivals like those past<br \/>\nremind us of our urgent<br \/>\nneed to remember Krishna<br \/>\nin every thing we do.<\/p>\n<p>Another year to become<br \/>\nconvinced that only loving<br \/>\nand serving Krishna will give<br \/>\nus our hearts fulfillment.<\/p>\n<p>If we knew this would be<br \/>\nour last Janmastami in<br \/>\nthis body, what would our<br \/>\nmood and attitude be?<\/p>\n<p>So we can pray and ask<br \/>\nfor the prayers of others<br \/>\nto keep the spirit of the festivals<br \/>\nthroughout our life!<\/p>\n<p>Life is meant to be a festival<br \/>\nor celebration of the glory<br \/>\nand wonder of Krishna,<br \/>\ngiving thanks for his love,<br \/>\nas we endeavor to love him.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Karnamrita das: Now the Suns of Janmastami and Vyasa puja have gone from our sight and we have to keep the service attitude, inspiration and remembrance.
