But he never forgot his roots and was quick in accepting Srila Bhakti Siddhant Sarasvati Thakur’s advice to preach in foreign lands.

The seeds of ISKCON, as we know it today, was originally sown in the city of Kolkata. Thus, this city Kolkata is perhaps of paramount importance for ISKCON and it followers, as it is the home to various important locations and institutions that gradually shaped up Abhay Charan into Bhaktivedanta Swami.

Calcutta is known for its cultural importance, but nothing brings forth the significance of this city in connection with the great Hare Krishna movement, that gripped the world in the 1960’s and 70’s. This book “The Hidden Treasures of Kolkata” was written with the same intention in mind to uphold Kolkata as the birthplace of Srila Prabhupada and the land where the Gaudiya Vaishnavism explosion originally happened.

The book was first published in August 2015 amidst the Golden Jubilee celebrations that had taken place in Kolkata, it’s release was marked in the hands of some of the stalwarts of ISKCON – HH Bhakti Charu Swami Gurumhj, HH Jayapataka Swami Gurumhj, HH Bhakti Purushottam Swami mhj, HG Jananivas pr, and others infront of 15000 devotees.

The books first edition ran out of print and the second edition is now ready and available for devotees in Iskcon Kolkata temple.

Should you be visiting Mayapur, pls plan a short layover in Kolkata and visit the amazing places mentioned herein.

(In Picture)His Excellency, Shri Keshari Nath Tripathi, the Governor of West Bengal, India with devotee of ISKCON Kolkata receiving a copy of the book.
