<\/a>Ratha Yatra Celebrations in Negara, Bali – 2018<\/p>\n By Nila Kamala Dasa<\/p>\n \n<\/p>\n Negara is a city situated in Western Bali around two and a half hours from Denpasar. It is the capital of Jembrana and has a population of around 300,000. On the 1st<\/sup> of September 2018, in conjunction with the cities\u2019 123rd<\/sup> anniversary, devotees held a grand Ratha Yatra celebration. This was the second time the festival was held with the first being on a small scale in 2010; 8 years prior. <\/p>\n \n<\/p>\n In May 2017, under the guidance of His Holiness Subhag Swami; a new preaching centre was inaugurated. This was the base for where the Ratha Yatra festival was conducted. <\/p>\n HH Subhag Swami expressed his desire that a Ratha Yatra should again take place in Negara at the start of August and with the sincere efforts of the local devotees and the mercy of the Lord all doors opened. Help came from locals, Government officers and leaders of Negara city. <\/p>\n \u2018For the present you endeavour to make Ratha-yatra festival grand and successful. You should arrange the procession and procedure so nicely that all the neighbourhood people may be attracted to join the procession.\u2019 Letter 1st<\/sup> June 1968<\/p>\n The majority of devotees arrived the day before the festival from various places in Indonesia; Sulawesi, Jakarta, Bandung, Malang, Semarang and different parts of Bali. During the night most of the devotees stayed awake and helped in preparing prasadam and making flower garlands. Around 1500 packets of prasad was made. <\/p>\n \n<\/p>\n The local Government supported the devotees very much during the event. They provided their public election chamber office as the headquarters where the procession started from, arati was done and where all the guests were welcomed. At around 12pm, HH Subhag Swami delivered a class on the history and importance of Ratha Yatra and how Srila Prabhupada inaugurated this festival throughout the world. This was followed by a traditional Balinese dance and the offering of coconuts to the Lord. <\/p>\n Rathe ca vamanam drstva punar janma na vidyate. \u2018Simply by seeing the Lord on the chariot, one makes advancement for stopping the repetition of birth and death.\u2019 Lecture July 13th<\/sup> 1972<\/p>\n \n<\/p>\n There was more than 500 devotees present at the event so they split into different kirtan groups all resounding melodious tunes of the Maha Mantra. As the chariot reached the main procession of the cities\u2019 anniversary, devotees had the opportunity to present a copy of the Bhagavad Gita as it is to th Mayor and Vice Mayor of Negara, Legislate Head of Negara and the Balinese Government representative. Alongside the kirtan many devotees were distributing Srila Prabhupada\u2019s books. Within a few hours, around 245 Srila Prabhupada books ware distributed.<\/p>\n \n<\/p>\n Our ever grateful obeisances are due to HH Kavichandra Swami and HH Ramai Swami, the GBCs of Indonesia, for their support and guidance to always look for new avenues for sankirtan.
