\nMy eulogy along with a 30m. video (DC Krishnafest) featuring Gunagrahi Maharaja who just left us this past weekend.
\nFrom 1989 through 1993 Gunagrahi Maharaja led the Krishnafest Harinama party seasonally located in Washington D.C. During that time Maharaja recruited several notable ISKCON kirtan leaders to participate in the party, such as Danavir Maharaja, BB Govinda Swami, Mahatma, Gaura, Titiksava Karunika, Sakya Rasa from UK, and Sarvatma prabhus. Numbers of other senior devotees came to assist in the preaching, including Tamal Krishna Maharaja, Rtadvaja Swami, Romapada Swami, Dhanurdara Swami, and Kalakantha prabhu. I played a supporting role in the program throughout those years, along with numbers of young devotees. In this Krishnafest video from various Harinamas in 1991, the magic of Gunagrahi Maharaja\u2019s ability to contact and engage conditioned souls in Krishna consciousness is impressively evident.
\nOn a personal note I met Gunagrahi Maharaja in Vrindavan over the past two years and he described to me the medications he was taking which kept the progress of his cancer at bay. He added nonchalantly that we all have to go sometime. I attribute the best years of my life to the time I had assisting Gunagrahi Maharaja. I told him so, and he accepted graciously. On occasion I encouraged him to return to DC and orchestrate the preaching magic he had previously there, but he was otherwise engaged. Around five years ago he did visit for a rainy Harinama back on the Capital Mall where Krishnafest flourished. We went out together with another Krishnafest alumni devotee Bhakta Mike. As usual he observed the situation and gave advice how to engage the public in being favorably disposed to our message. But without his continued shakti presence, I couldn\u2019t expect much of a follow up to develop. Perhaps this video will encourage more dynamic preachers to come to DC to revitalize a fertile preaching ground. That would certainly be pleasing to Gunagrahi Maharaja, and it would enhance his legacy.
