And I have always disliked the basic cowardice of bullies. Since I was a small child I have always stood against their gutless tyranny against vulnerable people. Gutless, because they lack the courage to really stand up for their own beliefs, without violence or intimidation. This would of course include all variety of philosophical tyranny. Terrorists of all types are generally so cowardly they don’t even have the spinefulness to stand up and directly profess specific disagreement with the presumed particular persons objectified by their murderous dissatisfaction, without violence. In fact, they don’t even really believe enough in their own reputed cause to stand up for their own essential ideals, without violence (or tyranny.) Therefore, terrorists are basically cowards and bullies.

Never mind theoretical perfection of all the ‘right’ arguments. If I really believe in something, my own conviction will be the only persuasion necessary (even if it’s the wrong idea). And I won’t be reading from a script when I introduce the ‘opposition’ to my preferred subjective ideology. My own enthusiasm fueled by earnest realization will, in fact, be electrifying and dynamically contagious.

If I have a problem regarding the way my “people” are being abused or mistreated, by bureaucratic institutions or corrupt regimes, there are far better ways than violence of bringing this injustice to the attention of all good people of this fair planet. And it is the attention of the good people whom we want. For our benefit, and the benefit of all others.

Students of Early American History may remember Thomas Paine’s courageous realization that “…the pen was mightier than the sword.” That is, Words, and Ideas; are more powerful than weapons. Weapons cannot kill, or even deter the spirit of History’s Truly Greatest Ideas which have genuinely inspired the actual cultivation of all that was best, most noble and self-sacrificing in Man, in all cultures, for all time.

Such conviction in Ideals, is bullet-proof, and bomb-proof. Like the inevitable deathlessness of the soul itself, it’s spirit cannot be ‘killed’ by the mere physical violence subscribed to by superficial believers in their cowardly and feeble attempt to bring attention and influence to their ostensible cause, or by the oppressive tyranny of corrupt regimes.

How much do I really believe in my highest ideal? Do I believe in it enough that I feel no need to cajole, coerce, intimidate or otherwise terrorize others (with either mental or physical violence) into surrendering to my perspective? Will I continue to believe in it, even if all the rest of the world apparently does not? If not, maybe I really don’t believe in it, at all.

Humbly,

Jagabandhu das

Jagabandhu das: Terrorism is bullyism.
