Darkness has fallen
\ntemperature dropping,
\n“suiting up” to go out:
\nmailbox and firewood.<\/p>\n
Walking out in the cold
\nthinking about a poem
\ngazing at the stars
\ndarkness and light.<\/p>\n
Arms full of firewood
\nstacking it by the stove;
\nfire such a wonder
\nthough simple, ubiquitous.<\/p>\n
Amazing dancing flames
\nwho can actually describe?
\nfeeling the warmth
\nappreciating its power.<\/p>\n
With most everything
\nfamiliarity breeds contempt,
\nsurvival depends on it
\nthough we understand it not.<\/p>\n
It has a name
\nqualities to describe,
\ncan be “Googled”
\nthough not comprehended.<\/p>\n
How often do we stop
\nto think of what we depend
\nto survive and thrive
\nand what’s the Source of all?<\/p>\n
Earth, fire, water, air
\nspace, mind, intelligence
\nand identity are all
\nunfathomable, inconceivable.<\/p>\n
So close to us
\nyet not noticed,
\njust like our soul and
\nGod, our Origin, Friend.<\/p>\n
Part of Krishna consciousness
\nis becoming conscious
\nof everything around us
\nappreciating it as Krishna’s energy.<\/p>\n
Think of what surrounds you:
\na furnished home, land
\namenities, clothes, family–
\nimagine if they were gone.<\/p>\n
Naked and hungry in
\na dark forest, what would
\nbe the value of shelter, warmth
\nfood and good company?<\/p>\n
As we complain of
\nwhat we don’t have
\nwe can stop, giving thanks
\nappreciating what we do.<\/p>\n
And for a devotee
\nwhat’s true, lasting treasure?
\nKrishna, his name, service
\nand sadhus that give light.<\/p>\n
These things are eternal
\nwhereas our reputation,
\nwealth, possessions, all will
\nperish, failing to fulfill.<\/p>\n
The Vedas call to us:
\ngive up the temporary
\ngo toward the light
\nwake up from your dream.<\/p>\n
So practice the bhakta’s life
\nchanting Krishna’s name
\nserving him, and acting in
\nin a mood of devotion.<\/p>\n
Gradually waking up
\neverything is miraculous
\nnothing is ordinary but full
