{"id":6895,"date":"2009-02-02T13:52:43","date_gmt":"2009-02-02T12:52:43","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.dandavats.com\/?p=6895"},"modified":"2009-02-02T13:52:43","modified_gmt":"2009-02-02T12:52:43","slug":"every-step-a-prayer-every-breathe-a-question","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.dandavats.com\/?p=6895","title":{"rendered":"Every Step a Prayer, Every Breathe a Question"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Karnamrita das:<br \/>\nEvery step a prayer<br \/>\ngiving thanks I still walk,<br \/>\nevery breathe a question<br \/>\nwhen my love will awaken?<\/p>\n<p>At every moment life and<br \/>\ndeath are precariously balanced&#8211;<br \/>\nwe struggle to survive another<br \/>\nday before our body\u2019s demise.<\/p>\n<p>Sitting in the waiting room<br \/>\nan outpatient clinic<br \/>\namidst deteriorating aged bodies<br \/>\nduring my wife&#8217;s colonoscopy.<\/p>\n<p>A common procedure, certainly<br \/>\nyet it gives us pause<br \/>\nabout how temporary life is&#8211;<br \/>\nthat it can end unexpectedly.<\/p>\n<p>Especially as we age<br \/>\nour friends begin to die,<br \/>\nmany suddenly, with no warning<br \/>\nothers slowly by disease.<\/p>\n<p>My parents in-law<br \/>\nhave it much worse<br \/>\nretirement community living<br \/>\nseeing close friends die, frequent funerals.<\/p>\n<p>Facing death helps us live more fully&#8211;<br \/>\nnot a morbid preoccupation,<br \/>\nbut negative impetus for engaging<br \/>\nin Bhakti, a real solution for death.<\/p>\n<p>Birth, disease, old age, &#038; death<br \/>\nfor the eternal soul unnatural<br \/>\nkept alive by our karma<br \/>\nby thinking we are the Enjoyer.<\/p>\n<p>After traversing the Universe<br \/>\nthrough all species going up,<br \/>\ndown, around all planets, dimensions<br \/>\nsince time immemorial&#8211;too long!<\/p>\n<p>The fortunate souls receive<br \/>\nwell-wishing from a saint<br \/>\nwhose blessings impart the Divine<br \/>\nseed of Bhakti, beginning the awakening.<\/p>\n<p>As we take a step toward Krishna<br \/>\nhe takes a thousand toward us<br \/>\nso great his love, that once embarking<br \/>\non bhakti, he never lets us go.<\/p>\n<p>Having begun our return to<br \/>\nthe Lord and love of our heart<br \/>\nhe carries what we lack<br \/>\npreserving what we have.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Karnamrita das: Every step a prayer giving thanks I still walk, every breathe a question when my love will awaken?
