By Ekalaksmi devi dasi<\/strong> (Ecuador Food For Life coordinator) With great enthusiasm the cooking team of FFL \u2013 Ecuador directed by Ekatma Prabhu prepared a number of delicious vegetarian dishes following the tradition and Vedic culture taught by Srila Prabhupada. They cooked rice, lentils, fried plantain and herbal tea. <\/p>\n This week the food distribution took place at a Juvenile Correctional Centre in the city of Guayaquil. This place holds young offenders that have incurred in drugs, robbery, etc. Previous to the day of the distribution, I met with the centre director and she mentioned that their budget only allowed them to feed 90 residents. However, they generally had to feed more than 120. This food shortage causes regular quarrels between inmates.<\/p>\n The day of the distribution all the volunteers took their positions to facilitate the serving of the preparations. Although the atmosphere was a bit tense, we were all excited about this opportunity to bring prasadam to these youngsters. Once the plates started to be distributed, no one was willing to let go of their serving spoons. Even when I volunteered to replace some of the servers, I was not able to do it. The servers were enjoying themselves so much that did not want to stop serving Krishna Prasadam. <\/p>\n The program ended successfully since all the young inmates fulfilled their hunger to their satisfaction. Everyone had a smile on their face; the director, the guards, the guides and the youngsters (some of them even wanted to come out with us).
