Giriraj Swami: April Fools\u2019 Day is celebrated yearly on April 1, and today I thought of Srila Prabhupada\u2019s instruction that we remain fools before the spiritual master.<\/p>\n
In a room conversation in Bombay, on August 16, 1976, a devotee asked Srila Prabhupada whether even a nitya-siddha, a liberated soul, had a guru. \u201cA liberated soul never says that \u2018I am liberated,\u2019 Prabhupada replied. \u201cAs soon as he says \u2018liberated,\u2019 he\u2019s a rascal. A liberated soul will never say that \u2018I am liberated.\u2019 That is liberation. Chaitanya Mahaprabhu, He is God\u2014guru more murkha dekhi\u2019 karila sasan [Cc Adi 7.71]: \u2018My Guru Maharaja saw Me fool number one, and he has chastised Me.\u2019 He\u2019s God. This is the example. If one remains always a servant, everlastingly, of guru, then he is liberated. And as soon as he thinks that he is liberated, he\u2019s a rascal. That is the teaching of Chaitanya Mahaprabhu. Guru more murkha dekhi\u2019. Chaitanya Mahaprabhu is murkha? Why He\u2019s posing Himself as murkha, \u2018I am fool number one\u2019? That means that is liberation. You must be ready always to be chastised by guru. Then he\u2019s liberated. And as soon as he thinks that \u2018I am beyond this chastisement. I am liberated,\u2019 he\u2019s a rascal. Why Chaitanya Mahaprabhu says, guru more murkha dekhi\u2019 karila sasan? This is sahajiya-vada, thinking, \u2018Oh, I have become liberated. I don\u2019t require any direction of my guru. I\u2019m liberated.\u2019 Then he\u2019s rascal. . . . So better remain a foolish person perpetually to be directed by Guru Maharaja. That is perfection.\u201d<\/p>\n
