Upanayanam is a kind of initiation in the Vedic system, where students receive the Brahma-g\u0101yatr\u012b and are then allowed to learn p\u016bj\u0101 and yaj\u00f1a. We request all the devotees to please bestow their blessings on these boys for their advancement in Krishna consciousness.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis upanayana, the sacred thread\u2026 Upa means near, and nayanam means bringing. Anayanam, coming or going, like that, nayanam. So \u2018to go near the spiritual master,\u2019 upanayana.<\/p>\n

\u201cAnd that sacred thread is the certificate that he has accepted a spiritual master. That is our Vedic system, identity, thread, sacred thread\u2026 The sa\u1e41sk\u0101ra is called upanayana-sa\u1e41sk\u0101ra. Upanayana means he has gone near the spiritual master; therefore he is now dvija, second birth. When a person goes to the spiritual master, that is his second birth, because he is born foolish.<\/p>\n
