A Hilarious Lord Nrsinghdeva Story
\nHG Prajapati das: Early 70\u2019s. Big festival in San Diego for the appearance of Lord Nrsimhadeva. Huge crowd in the park. The Los Angeles theatre group came down as part of the entertainment. We did The Killing of Kamsa. Then the local devotees began their drama of Prahlada. \u201cPrajapati,\u201d one devotee called. \u201cWill you play Lord Nrsimhadeva?\u201d<\/p>\n
I couldn\u2019t believe they had started without the Main character and had not rehearsed that important scene. I was assured that it was quite simple. All i had to do was come out of the pillar, grab Hiranyakasipu, put him on my lap, and pull out foam rubber guts. So I reluctantly agreed. After all it was devotional service. But the paper mache lions\u2019 head had only tiny holes to see out of. But, the play had already begun. So I put it on and stood behind the paper pillar and waited for my cue. I had studied method acting so I really got in the mood.<\/p>\n
Finally I heard: \u201cWhere is this God of yours? Is He in this pillar? Then I will kill Him!\u201d I came roaring out, unable to see anything and praying I didn\u2019t grab Prahlada by mistake. I found someone, wrestled him down and started pulling but was unable to find the prop guts. So I pulled and pulled and suddenly there was no one on my lap. So I just sat there until the play was over. But when I got off stage I discovered that my pulling had pulled off dhoti and underwear. Visnujana Swami had rushed up from the front row and covered the nearly naked Hiranyakasipu with his cloth and assisted him off stage.\u201c<\/p>\n
