The speaker delighted the packed room with his concise explanation of the difference between our consciousness and the mind.

Candramauli Swami quoted current statistics, stating that in the next year, depression will be the number one killer.

One may ask, what is depression?

Maharaja answered that “depression is caused by unfulfilled desires and anxiety. No one ever commits suicide because of physical difficulties. It is only due to the mind.”

Additionally, an interesting subject raised was “When we are talking to ourselves, who are we talking to?” – The mind. Is it crazy? No, actually it’s totally natural. The soul, the higher intelligence is debating with the mind. Therefore, by submerging our intellect in sastra we can overcome the obstinate and flickering nature of the mind.

Srila Prabhupada also instructed us on this subject in Srimad Bhagavatam (02.01.17) – ‘’The mind is not to be killed. Mind or desire cannot be stopped, but to develop a desire to function for spiritual realization, the quality of engagement by the mind has to be changed. The mind is the pivot of the active sense organs, and as such if the quality of thinking, feeling and willing is changed, naturally the quality of actions by the instrumental senses will also change.’’

In a typical Vedic fashion these important topics were discussed at length, with innumerable life lessons and positive solutions from the scriptures substantiated by Maharaja that can help anyone to understand such a deep subject matter, so much so that the audience left feeling elated, inspired and empowered.

In Chaitanya Caritamrta Lord Caitanya says that sadhu-sanga, the association of a great saintly person, is very important, because even if one is not advanced in knowledge, simply by association with a great saintly person one can immediately make considerable advancement in spiritual life.

[118

post-75360","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-recent-media
["GET
