George Harrison said, \u201cShyamsundar! Hare Krishna! Hey, what a great surprise. It\u2019s really good to see you.\u201d<\/p>\n

Syamsundar: \u201cWell, Prabhupada just happened to be passing through New York. He\u2019s over at the Brooklyn temple, and I \u2013\u201d<\/p>\n

Chris O\u2019Dell waves from across the room.<\/p>\n

Syamsundar: \u201cHare Krishna, Chris! How\u2019re ya doin\u2019! Anyway, George, I heard you were in town. What\u2019s this all about?\u201d<\/p>\n

George: \u201cWe\u2019re puttin\u2019 on a charity concert. It was Ravi\u2019s idea. For the Bangladesh refugees. You know, they\u2019ve been hit by cyclones, war. They\u2019re in real bad shape over there. We\u2019ve got Madison Square Garden booked for August 1. Two shows. Will you be around?\u201d<\/p>\n

Syamsundar: \u201cYeah, we\u2019re heading over to London on the second.\u201d<\/p>\n

George: \u201cGreat, I\u2019ll get you a seat.\u201d\u2026<\/p>\n

Madison Square Garden, August 1, 1971, Concert for Bangla Desh, 2 p.m. matinee show:
\nGeorge walked onstage, and after twenty thousand fans gave him a five-minute standing ovation, he looked down at Bhavananda and me in our front-row-center seats, grinned, and greeted us with a soft \u201cHare Krishna.\u201d<\/p>\n
