\nBIKERS, A BISHOP & A BOY APPRECIATE SRILA PRABHUPADA\u2019S BOOKS<\/p>\n
Danakeli Dasi: We secured another permit to do a book table at Mt. Rushmore & managed to distribute in twelve days over 1,900 books & 600 pamphlets. Many nice & interesting people received Srila Prabhupada\u2019s mercy.<\/p>\n
\u2022 Two motorcycle racers stopped, & the older one asked questions. I eventually showed him the KRSNA Book, describing to him how God must be all-attractive. Although he only took one small book, saying he didn\u2019t want to carry more on his bike, the younger biker, who was silent the whole time, said, \u201cI want that book!\u201d He gave a donation & took both the KRSNA Book & Bhagavad-gita.<\/p>\n
\u2022 Another biker with a strong, stout body, dressed in all-black & wearing a lot of metal jewelry, including a large cross on a thick chain, turned out to be a really nice guy. He gave a generous donation & took eight books.<\/p>\n
\u2022 A man passed by the table, taking note of it from the corner of his eyes. Later he approached again. Pulling out his wallet, he said, \u201cI\u2019m a bishop. I\u2019m on vacation, so I\u2019m not wearing my collar. I really respect what you\u2019re doing out here; it\u2019s a great sacrifice. Here\u2019s a donation to help w\/ your work.\u201d Because he gave a generous donation I offered for him to take some books. He said, \u201cNo, I get the same essence by reading the Bible. Give the books to people who don\u2019t yet know how to find that essence in the Bible.\u201d He didn\u2019t even pay attention to the man sitting across from us distributing free Bibles!<\/p>\n
\u2022 Within moments of a family stopping at our table, the 6-year-old boy picked up the Srimad-Bhagavatam & said, \u201cI\u2019ll take this one!\u201d His mother explained it wasn\u2019t a children\u2019s book, but he held the book to his chest & insisted she donates for it. He is homeschooled & already reads at a third-grade level. An hour later that happy boy again passed the table. Still holding the book tight to his chest, he waved & said, \u201cThank you!\u201d We couldn\u2019t help but think he may have encountered Prabhupada\u2019s Bhagavatam in his past life.<\/p>\n
\u2022 A young family man wanted only \u201cbeginners\u201d books & donated for a stack of five. When he was about 10 yards from the table, I felt I should give him one more. I thus called him back & gave him The Laws of Nature, saying that it discussed the laws of karma. His jaw dropped. He then proceeded to narrate how the previous day he had $200 stolen from his wallet & that the week before he fell from a ladder. He said, \u201cI was wondering, \u2018Am I getting punished,\u2019 & now you\u2019re giving me this book!\u201d<\/p>\n
\u2022 A friendly woman & her college-aged son came over to the table on our last day, saying they\u2019ve recently decided to explore meditation. Turns out she & I had a lot in common\u2014we\u2019re almost the same age, grew up on the same street, went to the same Catholic high school, moved to the same towns, & her son attends the same university I did. They didn\u2019t have a donation to give, but I gifted them two books & showed them the Bhagavad-gita. Twenty minutes later, after going to her vehicle & back, she unexpectantly reappeared & gave a generous donation for \u201cthat big book.\u201d<\/p>\n
