The Life History and Achievements of Srila Prabhupada.

\nSrila Prabhupada, a Transcendental Aristrocrat, Vaikuntha Man, Jagad Guru, An unparalleled scholar, A Bold Preacher, An Expert Manager and a Pure Devotee of Lord Krishna appeared on this earth on September 1, the next day of Janmastami in 1896, the year Srila Bhaktisiddhanta Saraswati Thakur published his first book and the year Srila Bhaktivinod Thakur began his Foreign Preaching.<\/p>\n
What Srila Prabhupada did was, is and will remain unparalleled in this universe for eons to come because he was the empowered representative of the Supreme Lord Krishna – Saktyavesa avatara and the Senapati Bhakta of Lord Caitanya\u2019s Sankirtan Movement. <\/p>\n
Lord Caitanya\u2019s desire that every town and village will sing my name and glories and be inundated in love of Godhead was thought to be symbolic by many Vaisnavas. But Srila Prabhupada\u2019s tremendous faith in the word of Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu and the instructions of his spiritual master helped him accomplish something undreamable, unthinkable and unbelievable. Who could have wondered that Devotees from all over the world will gather together loudly chanting Gauranga, Nityananda, Hari on the streets of Nabadwipa? But Srila Prabhupada made it possible. He had deleted impossible from his dictionary long ago.<\/p>\n
His life history and pastimes have been written in more than 50 volumes by his numerous disciples and the number is still increasing. Yet it can\u2019t fully describe the Persona and the Character of the Transcendental Personality that lived amongst us and continues to inspire us and touch and revolutionize the lives of millions of people worldwide.<\/p>\n
As Srila Prabhupada said – \u201cI will continue to live as long as my books are being distributed.\u201d The Golden Age for the next 10,000 years will come when people give up every other religion and take to one dharma – Hari Nam Sankirtana. Then will the world recognize the actual contribution of the Modern Day Saint – His Divine Grace AC Bhaktivedanta Swami Srila Prabhupada.<\/p>\n
Below is a short sketch of the life history and achievements of Srila Prabhupada in about 25 lines.<\/p>\n
Abhay Charan – Born on September 1, 1896, on Nandotsava, next day of Janmastami. Nicknamed Nandu.<\/p>\n
108 Temples – Seeing the janma patri, astrologer predicted that when he would reach the age of 70, he would cross the ocean and open 108 temples.<\/p>\n
Rath Yatra – At age 5, with the help of his father, Abhay organized his first Ratha Yatra gathering local friends, imitating the Giant Cart Festival at Jagannath Puri.<\/p>\n
Radha Krishna – At age 6, Prabhupada, inspired by his father\u2019s activities demanded and began worshipping his own Radha Krishna Deities.<\/p>\n
Bachelors – Abhay Charan enrolled for Degree in Philosophy from Scottish Churches\u2019 College, supported Gandhi in the Nationalist Movement. Netaji Bose was his senior.<\/p>\n
A Very Nice Saintly Person – Abhay met his spiritual master, Srila Bhaktisiddhanta Saraswati Thakur in 1922 who won over him in argument and ordered him to preach in the West in the first meeting itself.<\/p>\n
Abhay Charanaravinda – Received Initiation from Srila Bhaktisiddhanta Saraswati in 1932. Decided to help his Spiritual Master in whatever way possible.<\/p>\n
Brhat Mrdanga – Srila Bhaktisiddhanta Saraswati instructed Abhay – Book Distribution is Brhat Mrdanga, its sound will reach far and wide.<\/p>\n
Final Instruction – 2 weeks before leaving his body, Abhay received final instruction from his Spiritual Master to Print books and Preach in English in the West<\/p>\n
Bhaktivedanta – Honored with the title for his scholarship over the Vedic scriptures and Devotion in 1939.<\/p>\n
Back to Godhead – Begun single-handedly in 1944, fulfilling his spiritual master\u2019s order to preach in English. Abhay wrote, edited, bought paper, printed and sold the magazines.<\/p>\n
League of Devotees – Established in 1953 in Jhansi, with a view to urge people to take up Krishna Consciousness urgently and seriously.<\/p>\n
Bhaktivedanta Swami – Accepted the renounced order of life to dedicate himself wholly in the instructions of his Spiritual Master.<\/p>\n
Vrindavan is my home – Bhaktivedanta Swami shifted to Vrindavan and began translating the Amala Purana – Srimad Bhagavatam into English. Translated the 1st canto in 3 volumes by 1965.<\/p>\n
Jaladuta – Boarding a cargo ship on a 37-day long journey, Bhaktivedanta Swami set out to US, taking with him Srimad Bhagavatam – the pure message of Lord Krishna to deliver the Western world with Rupees 40 in hand. Suffered 2 heart attacks on the way.<\/p>\n
We shall call it ISKCON – With a handful of devotees, established the International Society for Krishna Consciousness in New York, Sept 1966.<\/p>\n
Rath Yatra – First Rath Yatra organized outside of India, Lord Jagannath, Baladeva, Subhadra set out on a cart to deliver the citizens of San Francisco in 1967. This would mark the beginning of Rath Yatra all over the world.<\/p>\n
Bhaktivedanta Book Trust – Established BBT in 1972, for publishing his books, independent of ISKCON so that the instruction of his Spiritual Master continues being fulfilled.<\/p>\n
Caitanya Caritamrta – published the Life History and Teachings of Lord Caitanya, the most Munificent Incarnation of Krishna which directly distributed love of Godhead in 1975. 17 volumes in a mere 18 months.<\/p>\n
A Transcendental Expert – Manager, Preacher, Leader all in one – Wrote letters, managed Temple affairs all over the world, slept from 10-1 in the night, Translated from 1-5 in Morning, gave lectures, traveled.<\/p>\n
Jagad Guru – He initiated over 5000 disciples from all over the world (more than 30 countries) and wrote 7000 letters in correspondence with his disciples. Letters are published in 5 books.<\/p>\n
A Bold Preacher – His lectures and conversations have been recorded and numbered more than 2200. Lectures on Srimad Bhagavatam and Bhagavad Gita alone are compiled in 18 volumes of books.<\/p>\n
An Unparallelled Scholar – Wrote more than 80 volumes of books. Reading 1 book per month will take you 2037 to complete if you start now. Reading 1 verse with purport daily, you will finish by the year 2130.<\/p>\n
A Vaikuntha Man – He traveled to 24 countries, 14 times around the globe, establishing 108 temples worldwide, fulfilling the prophecy and started Food for Life, which has distributed 3.7 billion free meals worldwide.<\/p>\n
ISKCON as it is now – His Bhagavad Gita As It Is has sold over 58 million copies in over 90 languages. ISKCON has over 700 big temples, around 1,00,000 initiated disciples, 66 Ecological Farms and 110 Veg Restaurants and millions of people worshipping.<\/p>\n
Srila Prabhupada – Faith on His Spiritual Master and word of Lord Caitanya made it possible to do all this in just 11 years by a man aged 70-80 in a foreign land beginning with Rupees 40 in hand.<\/p>\n
