ISKCON UK 50 – Monks celebrate at Abbey Road! (1 min. video)
\nThe Abbey Road zebra crossing made famous by The Beatles fifty years was awash with music and colour, as the UK Hare Krishnas celebrate their Golden Anniversary today (Sunday 15th September).<\/p>\n

In September 1968, three couples and a baby left San Francisco with a dream to follow the instructions of their Guru and set up the first Hare Krishna Temple in the UK \u2013 and meet the biggest band on the planet, The Beatles.<\/p>\n

Nine months later, the Hare Krishna Temple devotees had recorded an album at Abbey Road studios with The Beatle George Harrison and were performing their hit single Hare Krishna Mantra on BBC\u2019s Top of The Pops. In September 1969, days before The Beatles released their eponymous Abbey Road album, ISKCON UK was incorporated.<\/p>\n

Today, the Hare Krishna monks are as synonymous with London as the city\u2019s red buses<\/p>\n

Speaking today, Praghosa Das, UK Chairman of the Hare Krishna movement said:<\/p>\n

\u201cThe Abbey Road studios are steeped in history, where some of the world\u2019s most famous artists recorded their hits. The recording sessions with the Hare Krishna devotees in 1969 are part of the magic of the studios and testament to the story of the great friendship between George Harrison and the Temple.<\/p>\n

\u201cFifty years later, we have Temples in every major city in the UK, including the world famous Bhaktivedanta Manor in Watford which was gifted by George Harrison to the devotees. People from all walks of life form part of our vibrant communities across the country and the fiftieth anniversary has been celebrated across the UK to commemorate this momentous event.\u201d
