A team of 7 devotee-graduates from the famous Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) will be joining the staff of Bhaktivedanta Gurukula and International School (Vrindavan) this coming school year. This group of creative and talented devotees is led by Dr. Lila Purusottoma dasa, presently a professor at IIT Kanpur, who will be joining full time in July as Director of the school.<\/p>\n

Thus, for those of you keen for your child to be educated in an environment dedicated to Krishna Consciousness and academic excellence, you may want to consider BGIS, which is located right next to the vibrant Krishna Balaram Temple.<\/p>\n

Dr Lila Purushottama Dasa said, “The school addresses the learning needs of both primary and secondary students. The atmosphere is dedicated to bringing out the best in each student in all aspects of life whether it is in the areas of art, music, math, languages, or science. Because that’s what Krishna Consciousness is all about – learning to love and serve Krishna though actively developing our skills and talents, and preparing ourselves to live as people of character and competence – as vaisnava gentlemen.” he said.<\/p>\n

So along with the opportunity to live as a devotee – each ashram of 18 students has a temple room and deities to worship – students attend academic classes to prepare themselves for future study, work, or service.<\/p>\n

Over the years, we have enabled our students to perform at their best and continue on to universities of their choice–both in India and overseas. Many have stayed close and connected to nearby temples and devotees, and are regular participants in the programs and activities there. A few live in temple ashramas.<\/p>\n

Last year the top High School student of the Mathura\/ Vrindavan District was a student of BGIS. Ramachandra, from Nepal, scored an average of 93% in his finals. He is presently doing his B. Com in Ireland and working at Govinda’s restaurant in Dublin. One of his professors, impressed with his communication and presentation skills, asked where he went to school. Ramachandra replied that he obtained his education from standard I to standard XII in Gurukula, Vrindavan (BGIS) and that his faith in Krishna has given him the confidence to speak with ease in public.<\/p>\n
