My name is Shree Radha Raman, I am an Australian citizen, I have been a practicing Hare Krishna monk in Perth for 35 years, and I manage a community arts project called Sacred India.<\/p>\n
I was extremely offended by your comments this week in the Australian Parliament deriding those who wear robes, burn incense, and practice the ancient tradition of yoga.<\/p>\n
As someone who has devoted 35 years of my life to sharing these practices with the people of Australia for betterment of health and well being, and for the upliftment of conscious awareness, I am extremely disappointed that you chose to make such statements in Parliament. The lack of sensitivity and discretion your comments displayed is appalling.<\/p>\n
I take this opportunity to express my extreme disappointment on behalf of the Hare Krishna community of WA, the Sacred India community of Perth, and yoga practitioners across the length and breadth of Australia.<\/p>\n
And on a personal note, I wear my robes and represent an ancient tradition with pride. I honestly thought that in 2020 we were advancing beyond cultural bigotry and exclusion within all sectors of Australian society, what to speak of forums of governmental leadership such as the Australian Federal Parliament.<\/p>\n
Unfortunately your comments reveal there is still such a long way to go.<\/p>\n
