\nI\u200b received a lot\u200b of\u200b TV\u200b coverage. Arnie saw\u200b the\u200b TV\u200b news\u200b report.\u200b At\u200b this\u200b time\u200b he\u200b had just won the title of Mr. Universe for the third or fourth time. \u200bThat happened before\u200b his\u200b movie career.\u200b He phoned the\u200b next\u200b day. \u200bHe\u200b was\u200b after\u200b his\u200b own\u200b press coverage\u200b and suggested that\u200b we\u200b team\u200b up\u200b and\u200b get\u200b some\u200b joint\u200b publicity. \u200bAt\u200b that\u200b time\u200b he\u200b had\u200b no\u200b management\u200b and\u200b no\u200b PR man.\u200b He\u200b was\u200b his\u200b own\u200b PR\u200b man.
\nSo\u200b the\u200b next\u200b day\u200b I\u200b and\u200b Caru das (from Utah)\u200b met\u200b with\u200b him.\u200b You\u200b will\u200b be\u200b to\u200b see\u200b the\u200b half hr\u200b conversation\u200b in\u200b my\u200b upcoming\u200b autobiography.
\nAfter\u200b Caru\u200b argued with\u200b Arnie\u200b for\u200b a\u200b while, Caru\u200b stormed out.
\nBut\u200b Arnie\u200b and\u200b myself\u200b had\u200b a\u200b cordial chat.
\nHe\u200b had brought\u200b along a\u200b local\u200b newspaper photographer.
\nThe\u200b next\u200b day\u200b this\u200b photo appeared on\u200b page 3\u200b of\u200b \u201cTHE MELBOURNE\u200b \u200bSUN\u201d, Australia’\u200bs\u200b biggest\u200b daily at\u200b the\u200b time.
\nArnie\u200b was\u200b expert at\u200b getting\u200b his\u200b own\u200b publicity. (His\u200b ego being\u200b much\u200b bigger than\u200b his\u200b body). The\u200b caption above\u200b the photo\u200b said.\u200b THE\u200b MAN\u200b OF\u200b THE\u200b BODY\u200b MEETS THE\u200b MAN\u200b OF\u200b THE\u200b SPIRIT.
\nArnie\u200b spoke the\u200b holy name\u200b HARE KRISHNA\u200b a\u200b couple\u200b of\u200b times.

Sabhapati: Each evening Srila Prabhupada would give a lecture, and a couple of lectures he spoke on how society should be organized according to the varnasrama-dharma and how it was the duty of the leaders of society to rule properly.<\/p>\n
So I was very impressed by these sort of lectures because previously I\u2019d been to university and I\u2019d studied economics and politics, and I was interested in how society should be organized.<\/p>\n
Previously in 1974 after coming back from the Mayapur Festival, some devotees in America, Balavanta prabhu in particular, were running for Congress.<\/p>\n
So in elections in Australia, I was put up to be the representative of the In God We Trust Party, the political party of the Hare Krishna Movement.<\/p>\n
From this we got so much wonderful publicity\u2013interviewed on so many of the leading current affair TV programs, on the Mike Willesee Show, on In Melbourne Tonight.<\/p>\n
When I was on the Mike Willesee Show, he asked me what my policy was.<\/p>\n
And I was explaining to him how we weren\u2019t so much interested in so many political ideologies, but actually we were more interested in the quality of the politician, of the morality of the politician.<\/p>\n
The politician should have good spiritual qualities because in the past so many politicians were so corrupt and involved in so many different types of scandals and corruption so they were of no good quality.<\/p>\n
One of our platforms was that if we got elected, we would close down the two bars in Parliament House where the politicians would go and they would drink so much alcohol.<\/p>\n
And then after deciding to have the vote, they would ring the bell so that all the politicians were forced to leave the bar and to leave their drinks and to go back into the House and make the vote.<\/p>\n
So we made a big point that so much legislation was passed in the Parliament by intoxicated leaders.<\/p>\n
So we thought that this was actually quite disgusting.<\/p>\n
Our political platform was actually based on Harinam.<\/p>\n
We would go out and we would chant on the streets of Melbourne, and we would stop in a particular place and perform the kirtan and, of course, hundreds of people would come around.<\/p>\n
Then we would stop the kirtan, and I would stand on a soapbox and get up and talk about the philosophy of Krishna consciousness.<\/p>\n
We would talk for three or four minutes and everyone would listen, and I would finish and they would all clap in appreciation.<\/p>\n
Then we would continue chanting on down the street and stop at the next corner and get up and give another talk.<\/p>\n
So actually we went around the suburban streets where there were just houses.<\/p>\n
Then we would have kirtan up and down the suburban streets.<\/p>\n
So in this way, not only were we participating in a political process, but it was all based on the Harinam of Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu.<\/p>\n
So in that way, we were spreading Krishna consciousness.<\/p>\n
So as we engaged in the electoral campaign, we got quite a lot of publicity.<\/p>\n
One evening we were on a show called Melbourne Tonight, which was a big variety show in Melbourne; and one man came to Australia, and his name was Arnold Schwarzenegger.<\/p>\n
He had just won the title of Mr. Universe for the second or third time, and he was doing a tour of Australia.<\/p>\n
So he was a very smart guy, and he saw me on this political show.<\/p>\n
So he wanted to get publicity for himself.<\/p>\n
So the next day he rang up and he suggested that we have a meeting together and he could bring along a cameraman, and we would have publicity for him and publicity for the Hare Krishna political campaign. So we agreed to it.<\/p>\n
So the next day Arnold Schwarzenegger came and we met with him, and we had a big discussion and we were explaining to him that we\u2019re not this body, we\u2019re the soul.<\/p>\n
But he was flexing his muscles and telling us how good and how big and how powerful he was, and he was fit and healthy and we weren\u2019t fit and healthy because we were doing meditation.<\/p>\n
But we challenged him to come out on an eight-hour kirtan with us and see if he could keep up.<\/p>\n
You have to be very fit. Anyhow, he declined.<\/p>\n
Then finally he brought a photographer along, and he took a photograph of myself and him shaking hands.<\/p>\n
The next day it appeared in the paper, and it had \u201cThe man of the body meets the man of the spirit\u201d and a very, very nice favorable article underneath that caption.<\/p>\n

\nSchwarzenegger showed a gym-card saying, “I’ll come to hang with the Hare Krishnas for three hours if you spend the other three hours with me”. 😂<\/p>\n
However, history showed that Arnold didn’t come to sing, and Sabhapati didn’t go to the gym 😊<\/p>\n
