His Holiness Janananda Goswami: This month saw two dear disciples leave the world, on their way Back to Godhead. I would like to thank all the devotees who prayed and gave their blessings to these two wonderful souls. I have written a little life history about Jairama prabhu and how he left. Generally dying with Corona is not a very good way to go- in IC \u2013 no one allowed to visit or be in the ward, even family members and funeral with no one present etc. But Krsna had a different plan.<\/p>\n
JAIRAMA PRABHU PASSES AWAY<\/p>\n
Born in 1942 in Sri Lanka and took to devotional servcie in 1994.
\nMoved to Europe with family around 1996
\nConnected with ISKCON in Paris and preached to his grand children, many of who are now initiated as well as one daughter in London by Jayapataka Swami.<\/p>\n
He did not work in a job, but rather was like the guru to the family especially the grand children \u2013 telling them stories from the Mahabharata Ramayana etc\u2026<\/p>\n
In London he would take his children and grand children to the temple \u2013 even though he could not speak much English or French, he would find his way alone to the temple also.<\/p>\n
2014 he accepted initiation from myself, on the recommendation of Nitai Gaurasundara prabhu and shortly after took Brahmana initiation.<\/p>\n
He then began to perform Deity worship in Paris temple and after a while moved into the temple staying most of the week to serve Their lordships, despite his suffering from \u201cessential tremor disorder\u201d which would cause his hands to shake.<\/p>\n
He was also diabetic, so he was on a strict diet of cakes and sweets, always saying \u2013 \u201cthis is prasadam, not sugar\u201d. He would take no medicines.<\/p>\n
After a few years his health weakened and it became too difficult to stay in the temple and he moved back to his home where he stayed visiting the temple whenever possible.<\/p>\n
Everyone felt his loving, gentle, sweet, kind, non duplicitous, simple and humorous nature \u2013 always smiling.<\/p>\n
On the 23rd March he developed a fever. The family thought it was normal considering his weak health. since he had not left the house in more than one month and had hardly contacted anyone, they did not suspect Covid19. When the fever persisted and he developed breathing problems they called the Coronavirus hotline and being unable to take him to the doctor the ambulance came and took him to the hospital where he was admitted \u2013 the doctors quickly ascertained he had been infected with coronavirus and placed him in ICU, but explained after a while that the damage in the chest was irreparable and it was only a matter of hours before he would pass away. at this point it appeared he expressed no pain at all, save for the struggle of breathing .He but was simply given a mild sedative.<\/p>\n
Then some miraculous events took place.
\nIt so happened that the hospital he was in was the same one that one of his grand daughters was working as a pharmacist. Taking advantage of her being a staff member, as well as family member, she was able to access the room and spend time with her grandfather, chanting and playing Srila Prabhupada\u2019s kirtan for him. Then taking the opportunity she contacted me on her mobile and I was able to have a short video skype session with Jai Rama. He showed no sign of suffering at all and laid there peacefully for several hours before he passed away, in the middle of the night.<\/p>\n
Just the day before he was admitted the French govt. changed the law regarding funerals for those afflicted with Coronavirus, making it possible for 5 persons to attend, as well as one priest. At the funeral 3 family members came, plus two devotees, who performed kirtan during the ceremony and also one ISKCON priest. We were able to place in the coffin all auspicious items. He passed away on the 25th March.<\/p>\n
Luckily his ashes will be made available and taken to the holy River Ganga or Jamuna.<\/p>\n
SEVAMRTA PRABHU PASSES AWAY<\/p>\n
In March this year another dear disciple passed away in Australia. Sevamrta prabhu. He had served for many, many years in New Govardhan\u2019s most successful catering program, as well as at New Govardhan. Always quiet, shy and sober he was loved by all. He came to Krsna consciousness quite late in life and had certainly experienced many painful events in his life.<\/p>\n
For sure, with all the prayers and good wishes of so many devotees, his future progress towards spiritual perfection is assured.
