The book contains valuable information and biographical accounts of the great founders of the Sri-sampradaya \u2013 Nathamuni, Yamunacarya and Ramanuja. It is stated in \u201cPrapann\u0101m\u1e5bta\u201d in relation to Ramanujacarya\u2019s birth:<\/p>\n<p>caitre me\u1e63e \u015bukla-pak\u1e63e pa\u00f1camy\u0101\u1e41 guru-v\u0101sare |<br \/>\nmadhy\u0101hne karka\u1e6de lagne nak\u1e63atre rudra-daivate ||<\/p>\n<p>\u201c[Ramanuja was born] on the fifth day of the waxing moon during Caitra month [March-April], on Thursday, at noon when Cancer was the ascendant and the Moon was in Ardra-naksatra.\u201d (Sri Prapannamrta, 2.25).<\/p>\n<p>Sri Gauranga Mahaprabhu Himself states the following in \u201cNavadvipa-dhama-mahatmya\u201d (16.54):<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFrom Ramanuja I take two essential principles \u2013 unalloyed devotion and service to the devotees of the Lord.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>To provide some knowledge of the Sri-sampradaya to the residents of Bengal Srila Bhaktivinoda Thakura translated some verses from the section of \u201cPrapannamrta\u201d where Ramanuja instructs his followers and then published them in his \u201cSajjana-tosani\u201d (Vol.7, numbers 3 and 4, June-July 1895) under a title \u201cRamanuja Swamir Upadesh\u201d, \u201cInstructions of Ramanuja Swami\u201d. A method-attitude (up\u0101ya-buddhi) is when we think that we achieve some other result by serving Vai\u1e63\u1e47avas. But when we think that Vai\u1e63\u1e47ava-sev\u0101 becomes possible only after performing many other pious activities \u2013 such attitude is called \u201cgoal-attitude\u201d (upeya-buddhi).<\/p>\n<p>n\u0101h\u016byed eka-vacan\u0101n mah\u0101bh\u0101gavat\u0101n jan\u0101n |<br \/>\np\u016brv\u0101\u00f1jali\u1e41 vai\u1e63\u1e47av\u0101n\u0101\u1e41 d\u1e5b\u1e63\u1e6di-m\u0101tre ca k\u0101rayet ||13||<\/p>\n<p>If one needs to call great Vai\u1e63\u1e47avas he should not use singular number, which denotes disrespect, but instead he should use plural number denoting respect. When a Vai\u1e63\u1e47ava departs one should walk some distance along with him.<\/p>\n<p>\u015br\u012b-vai\u1e63\u1e47av\u0101n\u0101\u1e41 sarve\u1e63\u0101\u1e41 deha-ch\u0101y\u0101 na la\u1e45ghayet |<br \/>\nsva-deha-ch\u0101y\u0101 sa\u1e41spar\u015ba\u1e41 vai\u1e63\u1e47ave\u1e63u na k\u0101rayet ||27||<\/p>\n<p>One should not step over the shadow from the Vai\u1e63\u1e47avas\u2019 body. If one sees them one should not tell others anything about them. Quickly giving up their faults one should glorify their good qualities.<\/p>\n<p>vi\u1e63\u1e47u-p\u0101dodaka\u1e41 caiva bhakta-p\u0101dodakan tu v\u0101 |<br \/>\npr\u0101k\u1e5bte\u1e63u ca pa\u015byatsu na pibet toyam uttamam ||32||<\/p>\n<p>One should not drink the great water that washed the lotus feet of Lord Vi\u1e63\u1e47u or of His devotees while being looked upon by materialistic people.<\/p>\n<p>tattva-trayasya j\u00f1\u0101nena \u015br\u012b-rahasya-trayasya ca |<br \/>\nrahitasy\u0101\u1e45ghri-ja\u1e41 toya\u1e41 gr\u0101hayen na kad\u0101cana ||33||<\/p>\n<p>One should never drink the water that washed the feet of a person who is devoid of knowledge of the three tattvas and three rahasyas. Three tattvas are cit (living entities), acit (matter) and \u012a\u015bvara (God). Bhagav\u0101n is one non-dual entity and this non-dual entity possesses two vi\u015be\u1e63as (attributes) \u2013 cit and acit. Even if a person devoid of this knowledge has undergone five sa\u1e41sk\u0101ras, still one should not accept the water from his feet.<\/p>\n<p>j\u00f1\u0101n\u0101nu\u1e63\u1e6dh\u0101na-yuktasya sad\u0101c\u0101ra-ratasya ca |<br \/>\np\u0101dodaka\u1e41 vai\u1e63\u1e47avasya piben nitya\u1e41 prayatnata\u1e25 ||34||<\/p>\n<p>One should endeavor to always drink the water from the feet of the Vai\u1e63\u1e47avas who possess proper knowledge, in other words the knowledge of artha-pancaka and three tattvas, and is devoted to following proper behavior (sad\u0101cara-rata).<\/p>\n<p>m\u0101\u1e41 ca bh\u0101gavatai\u1e25 s\u0101rddha\u1e41 s\u0101mya-buddhi\u1e41 na k\u0101rayet |<br \/>\npr\u0101k\u1e5bt\u0101n\u0101\u1e41 ca sa\u1e41spar\u015ba\u1e41 pr\u0101pta\u1e25 pr\u0101m\u0101dik\u0101d yadi |<br \/>\nsn\u0101ta\u1e25 sacaila\u1e25 sahas\u0101 vai\u1e63\u1e47av\u0101\u1e45ghri-jala\u1e41 pibet ||35||<\/p>\n<p>One should not consider oneself equal to Vai\u1e63\u1e47avas. As soon as one accidentally touches a materialist one should immediately take bath with one\u2019s cloth on and then drink Vai\u1e63\u1e47ava-cara\u1e47\u0101m\u1e5bta.<\/p>\n<p>na gr\u0101hayed vi\u1e63\u1e47u-t\u012brtha\u1e41 pr\u0101k\u1e5bt\u0101n\u0101\u1e41 g\u1e5bhe\u1e63u ca |<br \/>\npr\u0101k\u1e5bt\u0101n\u0101\u1e41 niv\u0101sa-sth\u0101n na seved vi\u1e63\u1e47u-vigrah\u0101n ||38||<\/p>\n<p>One should not accept cara\u1e47\u0101m\u1e5bta from the \u015b\u0101lagr\u0101ma-\u015bil\u0101 situated in the house of materialistic people. One should not serve the Deity of Lord Vi\u1e63\u1e47u situated in the house of materialistic people.<\/p>\n<p>\u015br\u012b-harer-divya-de\u015be\u1e63u pa\u015byatsu pr\u0101k\u1e5bte\u1e63v api |<br \/>\nt\u012brtha-pras\u0101da-grahana\u1e41 k\u0101rayen na tu sa\u1e41\u015baya\u1e41 ||39||<\/p>\n<p>One should accept pras\u0101dam from the Lord\u2019s holy places even while being looked upon by materialistic persons residing in those places. Neglecting Vai\u1e63\u1e47avas is more dangerous than disrespecting Lord Vi\u1e63\u1e47u. The water from the feet of Vai\u1e63\u1e47avas is greater than water from the feet of Lord Vi\u1e63\u1e47u.
