The importance of being thoughtful<\/strong><\/p>\n One time, a simple elderly man came into a shop. And the merchant was selling him some grains and the merchant asked the man, \u201cWhy is your head shaven? You come here every day. You never shave your head. Why are you wearing dark clothes today?\u201d And the old man, he was very serious. He said, \u201cOh! You have not heard? \nAnd the merchant was selling him some grains and the merchant asked the man, \u201cWhy is your head shaven? You come here every day. You never shave your head. Why are you wearing dark clothes today?\u201d
\nAnd the old man, he was very serious. He said, \u201cOh! You have not heard? Sargal Singh is dead!\u201d
\nThe merchant, he didn\u2019t want to reveal that he was ignorant \u2013 because the way he said \u201cSargal Singh is dead. You have not heard?\u201d It was as if everyone knows Sargal Singh \u2013 so he said, \u201cOh no! Are you serious? I am really sorry to hear this!\u201d
\nSo the merchant shaved his head and wore dark clothes. And then the next day, a military man came to the merchant shop and he saw the merchant with his shaved head and dark clothes.
\n\u201cWhat are you doing? Why are you shaved head?\u201d
\n\u201cOh! You have not heard? Sargal Singh is dead.\u201d
\n\u201cOh! This is very sad news.\u201d So, the military man shaved his head and put on dark clothes.
\nAnd soon he started telling all of his people, all the soldiers. And one day when all the soldiers \u2013 hundreds and hundreds of soldiers \u2013 they were lined up to march, the commanding officer came before them. He said \u201cWhat is this? You all have shaved heads? Why you are shaving your heads?\u201d
\nThen, all of them together, hundred men in unison said, \u201cYou have not heard? Sargal Singh is dead!\u201d
\nThe commanding officer said, \u201cOh!\u201d He didn\u2019t want to show his ignorance. \u201cOh! Sargal Singh is dead!\u201d So, he shaved his head. Then he reported to the Prime Minister.
\nThe Prime Minister said, \u201cWhat is this? Shaving your head? Why?\u201d
\nHe said, \u201cOh! Mr. Prime Minister you must have heard. You must have heard that Sargal Singh is dead!\u201d
\nHe said, \u201cOh! Oh no! Oh! Thank you for telling me this.\u201d So, the Prime Minister came to report to the King.
\nAnd the King said, \u201cWhy your head is shaved?\u201d
\n\u201cOh! Your Majesty it breaks my heart, it breaks my heart to inform you of this terrible news!\u201d
\n\u201cWhat? What?\u201d
\n\u201cSargal Singh is dead!\u201d
\nThe king was the first one to ask this very brilliant question. He said \u201cWho is Sargal Singh?\u201d
\nHe said, \u201cI don\u2019t know!\u201d
\n\u201cFind out!\u201d
\nSo, he met the military commander. He said, \u201cI don\u2019t know.\u201d Then, the next day when all the soldiers were gathering to march, he asked them all. \u2013 \u201cWho is Sargal Singh?\u201d
\nAnd they all said in unison, \u201cYou do not know?\u201d
\nHe said, \u201cNo!\u201d
\n\u201cYou do not know who Sargal Singh is?\u201d
\n\u201cNo! Who is he?\u201d
\n\u201cWe don\u2019t either!\u201d
\nSo they went to the shopkeeper. \u201cYou don\u2019t know?\u201d
\n\u201cNo! I don\u2019t either!\u201d
\nThen they finally went to the little old man. This is the material conception of \u2018parampara\u2019. They went to that little old man and asked, \u201cWho is Sargal Singh?\u201d He said, \u201cYou don\u2019t know?\u201d
\n\u201cNo, we don\u2019t know!\u201d
\n\u201cI will tell you. He is my donkey. I am a washer man and for so many years he has done faithful loyal service to me by carrying the cloth on his back from customer to customer and he has died.\u201d He started crying. He said, \u201cI loved Sargal Singh, but now he is dead!\u201d
\nThis is an example, we are laughing, but the principle that we are speaking of is very much molding our lives every day with our conception of reality, our conception of what is really valuable in life and what we should really pursue in life.
\n\u201cWe are just told that looking nice, wearing a certain type of fashion, making some money, getting a nice house, getting some prestige in society will make you happy. But is this reality? Is this true? Or do we just believe that because so many other people believe it?
