In Calcutta in 1972 \u015ar\u012bla Prabhup\u0101da was on a morning walk with many brahmac\u0101r\u012bs. Some of the brahmac\u0101r\u012bs complained that the women also lived in the Calcutta temple on Albert Road. One brahmach\u0101r\u012b said, “\u015ar\u012bla Prabhup\u0101da, sometimes women do not cover their heads with sari.” and “Why can’t women find a place other than brahmac\u0101r\u012bs? Their presence does not contribute to our brahmac\u0101rya lives.”<\/p>\n

\u015ar\u012bla Prabhup\u0101da was quiet the whole walk. Sometimes he would stop walking and then start again, but he did not respond to the brahmac\u0101r\u012bs. Then we went up the stairs of the Albert Road, someone opened the door for us, and there were Yamun\u0101, P\u0101lik\u0101, the wife of \u015ay\u0101masundara M\u0101lat\u012b, kau\u015balya, M\u0101dr\u012b and other women who stayed to wash the floor, cook for the Deities, bathe the Deities , dressing the Deities, preparing vy\u0101s\u0101sana for \u015ar\u012bla Prabhup\u0101da and pillows for the guests. The women immediately bowed down and said, “Jay \u015ar\u012bla Prabhup\u0101da!”
