They had so many devotees coming in the last few days, 4 big groups from Mariupol, one of them literally came out walking from the war zone as no transport was available. Altogether 19 people, mums, kids, teenagers and one grand dad of 86 (in really good shape) arrived. The minute our 86 year old grand dad arrived at the temple he started to sweep up some leaves as he wanted to help, but also could not sit down for more than 5 minutes!
The Mariupol devotees seem very lost, more than previous arrivals, perhaps they have seen too much and have no idea where to go and what to do. We give them time to rest and think in our temporary house, where right now we have twice as many children as adults.
We also have our first twins! An 8 year old boy and girl traveled with their little 4 year old brother and mum and dad from Krematorsk which is located in east Ukraine. The journey took 2 days, including an 8 hour wait on the border. They left as the Russian army was leaving Kiev and heading towards them. When they left it was almost summer for them, on arrival to Warsaw they found snow! 30 cm of snow in Warsaw right now!
Walbrzych and Wroclaw carry on with stable support, lots of devotees have work now, some children got into school, some not yet as there is a lot on the waiting list.
Food for life continues on in Warsaw and now in Wroclaw with the Daily Help centre for refugees.
There has been so much movement this week. 4 groups that came from Dniepro all went to Germany: Simhacalam, Goloka Dham, Some came from Charkov, big group of 19 arrived from Lviv temple, stayed only for a day and travelled on to Gaudiya math yoga centre in Hanover, the place that was kindly arranged by Sadashiva Prabhu in Berlin.
One family travelled on to settle in Radhadesh, a lot going to Copenhagen, Denmark by free Danish bus. We even had couple of families going to Moscow and Kalingrad in Russia, as they were joining their family members there.
All those transit arrangements could never have happened without the help of all the dedicated devotees in different countries who are involved with the EU crisis management. Those selfless souls give up their already busy lives to support others they have never even met. They all have jobs, families, services, responsibilities yet they volunteered and made time to support those in need. And they should be named ; Puspa Priya in Czech, Sadasiva in Germany, Lalitanatha in Denmark and of course Sukanti Radha in UK who brought us all together. It’s a thankless task, as heroic as it looks it is a huge unknown for all, dealing with war and its aftermath. We discover more and more challenges and unpredicted issues.
This week we had a couple of sponsors who offered to host a refugee family and realised this is not exactly what they signed up for. Despite the initial very good intentions the reality is rarely what we are expecting or hoping for. We are facing some serious cultural differences, life and spiritual practises, variety of standards, on top of a war trauma and confusion of being so lost in a new country. It is a huge commitment and none of us were ready for any of this.
It’s a serious test on our empathy as devotees, in theory we understand those devotees have been through so much stress that their behaviours at times will be irrational and contradictory with all the research we have done. We are trying our best to get some insight on it, some proper psychological and emotional support and understanding so we know how to react to all those various expressions of trauma and deep fear. But it is hard for all involved. The hardest hit this week was when we found out one of the ladies we look after, her friend’s husband was killed in action….he was a young man and did a daily prayer to Lord Nrisimhadeva…..
We carry on and try our best to support those devotees, the need for emotional support is huge, we can see that now. And we won’t like some of the situations or behaviours, and we won’t meet some of the expectations. We cant really blame anyone, the refugees did not want to leave their home and it was a hugely kind gesture for the host to sign up for this… in war there is no perfect situation. If we want to blame anyone we can certainly point fingers at one man in a marble palace that started this whole madness. May we all pray to Lord Nrishimhadeva today during the special worldwide yajna , so this cruel war will end soon.

[94

post-97126","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-testing
["GET
