October 21st – 6.00 pm. The end of the world when God will unleash no end of disasters in the form of earthquakes, tsunamis, hurricanes and whatever it takes to end everyone except His elect sect who will ascend to heaven. Actually it was supposed to be May 21st but somehow the Lord gave a little more time to the non-believers to repent and reform before doomsday. Anyway it\u2019s probably just one of many fanciful, fantasy predictions which come and go like the seasons.<\/p>\n

Sometimes even devotees get a bit scared of these things, but don\u2019t worry about this or 2012. We have more important things to worry about. <\/p>\n

Srila Prabhupada wrote to Rayarama on 19 November, 1968<\/p>\n

\u201cRest assured that this nonsense idea of cataclysmic earthquakes will never take place. And even if it takes place, why should we be afraid of it? As soon as there is sign of such earthquake, we shall sit down together and chant Hare Krishna. So it will be a great opportunity of meeting death while chanting Hare Krishna. If one dies on sound condition of body and mind chanting Hare Krishna, he is the most fortunate man.<\/p>\n

These predictions can help to remind us of the inevitable and how to prepare for it. Life will come to end for all of us in terms of this body and for hundreds of thousands of humans it is a reality every day. It is a great loss that people die without the seed of bhakti and are tossed around in the waves of samsara due to their gross entanglement in matter. Is it not Lord Caitanya\u2019s mission to deliver all the fallen souls? Do we not have the privilege to carry that mission on and save the earth?<\/p>\n

Back in 1966 The East Village Other, a local underground newspaper printed a full front page photo of Swamiji (Srila Prabhupada) standing beneath an oak tree in Tompkins Square Park, New York. The headlines read: “SAVE EARTH NOW! HARE KRISHNA, HARE KRISHNA, KRISHNA KRISHNA, HARE HARE, HARE RAMA, HARE RAMA, RAMA RAMA, HARE HARE.”<\/p>\n

What does it mean to save the earth? Is it some ecological or environmental exercise? Certainly not, as that alone will not help the soul any more than cleaning up the bird cage and forgetting to feed the bird. Not to say we should not respect the earth as Krsna\u2019s energy and the form of Mother Bumi. We should.<\/p>\n

Above that however saving the earth means to follow Lord Caitanya Mahaprabhu and perform the yuga dharma in every town and village.<\/p>\n

“I shall personally inaugurate the religion of the age — nama-sankirtana, the congregational chanting of the holy name. I shall make the world dance in ecstasy, realizing the four mellows of loving devotional service.<\/p>\n

(Caitanya Caritamrita Adi Lila 3.20)<\/p>\n

And in the Caitanya Caritamrita Adi Lila 4.39-40<\/p>\n

\u201cThus with two intentions the Lord appeared with His devotees and tasted the nectar of prema with the congregational chanting of the holy name. Thus He spread kirtana even among the untouchables. He wove a wreath of the holy name and prema, with which He garlanded the entire material world.<\/p>\n

So let\u2019s roll up our sleeves and get out into the garden and assist Lord Caitanya Mahaprabhu in picking and distributing the fruits of love of God. There\u2019s no shortage of fruits or gardens and they are very ripe at the moment. It\u2019s the fruit season.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe have to become infused with His spiritual potency; thus strengthened, we then have to make the propagation of His transcendental glories our prime duty in life. By means of such potent missionary activities, innumerable jivas can experience endless spiritual joy.<\/p>\n

Neither spiritual retreats, churches, mosques, temples, karma-yoga, jnana-yoga, dry empirical philosophy, nor imitation devotees can save humanity from the jaws of death. They are inadequate for purifying the consciousness because what they offer as spiritual succor is limited by their sectarian vision, a set of do’s and don’ts, and a rigid approach that simply further entangle humanity in the material energy. What is needed are exemplary spiritual actions and the espousal of the genuine path of self-realization, but these have not been properly instituted. Just as Bhagiratha brought down the Ganga and liberated his forefathers, similarly, we must bring a deluge of love of Godhead that can extricate the conditioned souls from the clutches of gross materialism. At least for some time, we must create Satya-yuga, the age of reason and piety. We can easily accomplish this Herculean task simply by reintroducing Lord Caitanya’s sankirtana movement of the congregational chanting of Lord Krsna’s name and thus flooding the world with krsna-prema. All living entities — the human beings, who are afflicted by Kali-yuga, as well as sub-human beings — must be drowned in the floodwaters of krsna-prema.<\/p>\n

So let us assist Srila Prabhupada in fulfilling this mission of garlanding the whole world with the holy name and prema and making the world dance in ecstasy.<\/p>\n

One great way we can work towards this is to take advantage of the \u201cWorld Holy Name Week\u201d which this year will be from September the 10th till the 20th.<\/p>\n

By more and more chanting of HARE KRISHNA, HARE KRISHNA, KRISHNA KRISHNA, HARE HARE, HARE RAMA, HARE RAMA, RAMA RAMA, HARE HARE we can \u201cSAVE EARTH NOW\u201d and bring an end to the worries of the fallen jivas. This is a great way to prepare for the end.<\/p>\n
