Sita Devi Dasi: Yadhunandan Prabhu’s body was found in his apartment with his hand in his beadbag. He left his body with the holy name on his lips. He was a beloved member of the Hartford Temple who could always be found doing service for Krishna and His devotees, whether it was washing dishes, serving prashadam, or making generous contributions to the temple especially for deity outfits. His smiling face and great sense of humor will be missed. He was always willing to fulfill the needs and desires of the devotees. One time I had a project for school where I needed to interview somebody over the age of 65 and he graciously accepted to help me. I learned much about his journey to Krishna Consciousness. He had found the ISKCON devotees in Los Angeles and he would attend home programs and temple programs there and then eventually hosted home programs at his place. He and his mother would cook delicious prashadam for the devotees and he would invite swamis to give lectures. The kirtans at his house would become so ecstatic that the neighbors would comment on it the next day. Eventually Yadhunandan Prabhu moved to Western Massachusets which is a 1 hour drive from the Hartford Temple. Even though he lived far away he was a regular at the temple and he would pick up other devotees to bring them along. In 2013 he was initiated by His Holiness Niranjana Maharaj, and went from Bhakta Yulin to Yadhunandan das.The Hartford devotees have lost the physical association of a great devotee who was a irreplaceable member of the community, but we will all remember him by his example. He has taught us all how to be more selfless, humble, and generous. Even though we are struggling in his absence, it is of great consolation to know that when his soul departed it traveled straight to Krishnaloka. Lord Krishna states in the Bhagavad Gita 8.5 “And whoever, at the time of death, quits his body, remembering Me alone, at once attains My nature. Of this there is no doubt”.
