Adirasa das Prabhu about Kirtan
- What are the basics of behavior during kirtan?
- The main thing - is the unity. Without it, kirtan will fail. From the first minute it is difficult to combine the kirtan all the devotees. Usually, to form a unity among the faithful, and that they had a taste, it takes some time. Is 15 minutes’re kirtan, 20 minutes, 30 … And then begins something unusual. Sankirtana - chanting it. And if we do during sankirtana not feel each other - there is no full unity....

Those were the days!
Kurma das: Monday, 17 July 1972
“Civil authorities in Melbourne followed Sydney’s lead by arresting the devotees, albeit it under slightly different circumstances. In Sydney, devotees would be spontaneously arrested for street chanting. In Melbourne, however, although the police disapproved of the chanting parties, devotees were mainly getting charged for selling Back to Godhead magazines on the street. The charging would result in court cases with fines being imposed against the devotees. The devotees, of course, ...

The heart of a sincere sadhaka.
Good chanting does not depend on our adherence to mechanical rules. It is not a matter of just doing the dos and avoiding the don’ts and then our job is done. No, not at all! Chanting is an offering of the heart – a heart filled with feelings of humility, a desire to surrender and a sincere service attitude. It is ultimately a loving call to Sri Sri Radha and Krsna. This means we need to chant with a firm understanding of our relationship with Them (sambhandha). “My Lord, I have a relationship with You...

Sri Sri Corastakam.
(The song about the Thief)
This song by Sri Bilvamangala Thakura expresses the sweet relationship between the devotee and Krsna, who purifies His devotee. It also highlights the special potency of Krsna’s holy name. (1) I offer my obeisances to that foremost of thieves – who is famous in Vraja as the butter-thief and who steals the gopis’ clothes, and who, for those who take shelter of Him, steals the sins which have accrued over many lifetimes. (2) I offer my obeisances to the foremost of thieves – who...

Don’t let our desire to use something for Krishna become greater than our desire for Krishna (Based on Gita 09.26)
Chaitanya Charan Das: While driving to meet someone special, suppose we get a desire to offer them a special gift. But we get so caught in searching that gift that we lose our way and fail to reach for the meeting. By our mistaken priorities, we end up undermining the very relationship that we wanted to sweeten.

Prabhupada priya dd: A few days ago, while doing some writing at the University of Florida library, I took a break to chant my midday Gayatri, and as I looked out from the 4th floor over the Plaza of the Americas, I felt Srila Prabhupada’s presence very strongly. Devotee families have their own unique offering to make to Krsna. Theirs is not an inferior brand of spirituality. Nor is marital happiness something shameful, as was often believed in the medieval ages of Christianity. God does not envy our enjoyment. But if we want our happiness to last, it has to be built on the principle of serving Krsna's enjoyment, because we are all His servants and cannot have lasting enjoyment by acting against our nature....

With this in mind just like a drop of rain can become a pearl with the touch of oyster, in the same manner with the touch of a pure devotee we can clean our filthy hearts filled with dust and make it shine like a mirror. But, when that same drop of water drops into the gutter, it is not even worth of washing our feet.

A Revolutionary Spirit.
Kadamba Kanana Swam: In the introduction to the Srimad Bhagavatam, Śrīla Prabhupāda quotes a very famous verse (SB 1.5.11). This is the verse that speaks about a revolution, so that attracts me because I like the revolutionary spirit, the spirit of making changes, something dynamic. Prabhupada is pointing out it is the discussion of Krsna that would bring about the change.

Written by Aprakrita dasa
Ugrasrava: I had friends in the advertising industry, and one day they came to the temple and said, “The Wrangler Jeans Company wants us to advertise their product and we have the idea to use the Hare Krishnas’ in a sankirtan party - playing mridangas and kartals, wearing dhotis and full tilak, coming down Burk Street. One of the devotees will wear a Wrangler denim shi...

What You Have To Do If You Have Offended A Devotee Of The Lord.
Sacinandana Swami: If one has drunk the poison of offending a devotee, one should, with that same mouth, drink the life-giving nectar of sincerely praising (and serving) that devotee. Haridasa Thakura says, “If anyone offends a sadhu in a moment of delusion and madness, he must fall at the sadhu’s feet and bitterly repent; weeping with full contrition, he must beg for forgiveness. He should declare himself a fallen wretch in need of a Vaisnava’s grace. A sadhu is very me...
