Principles and details

by Dandavats.com

Disagreement over issues is not as disruptive as disagreement over the importance of the disagreements (Based on Gita 18.22)
When we see disruptive disagreements among friends who share our faith, we feel distressed. Why? Because we practice our faith to experience peace, not strife. Indeed, the specter of religious conflicts drives fence-sitters towards agnosticism, atheism or even anti-theism.

Blessing received by a child within the womb realized several years later!

by Administrator

Her sister and her were drawn to the festival, they went in and eat lots of sweets and the visiting swami from India blessed her and the child within the womb. It was chiddha dahi festival and she met Jayapataka swami before his stroke and received profuse blessings. It all came to her 14 years later when she saw me today. No wonder this boy was drawn to the books and Krishna philosophy. She promised to bring her son and come for kirtan this week

Becoming immune to Kali-yuga by realizing the Lord’s presence

by Dandavats.com

Becoming immune to Kali-yuga by realizing the Lord’s presence.
Srila Prabhupada: There is nothing in the world with which the Lord is disconnected. The only thing we must learn is to excavate the source of connection and thus be linked with Him by offenseless service. We can be connected with Him by the transcendental sound representation of the Lord.

Three most important rules for chanting Hare Krishna

by Dandavats.com

Three most important rules for chanting Hare Krishna.
HH Sacinandana Swami: Our spiritual practice should nourish us, it should supply us with a taste that is better than the taste that material activities and sense gratification provide us with. When our spiritual practice lacks this taste, the temptation of material life which then allures us with a seemingly greater taste is always close to us. And at that time we are in danger. However, if we can find taste in our spiritual practice we are safe on the spiritual platform.

Studying scriptures

by Administrator
Hare Krishna

Dear Prabhu, a member of the twice-born classes is born with three kinds of debts—those owed to the demigods, to the sages and to his forefathers. If he leaves his body without first liquidating these debts by performing sacrifice, studying the scriptures and begetting children, he will fall down into a hellish condition.

Being right and being true

by Dandavats.com

Being right and being true.
Twenty years ago, I lived in a small and simple ashram with fellow bhakti-yoga practitioners. I used to talk for hours with a friend, a deep and soft person, about philosophy, life, spiritual practice, and the fine tuning of our thoughts, words, and actions. I recall a discussion about the difference between being right and being true. To be right is like ringing the victory bell while being true is a call to the higher self, a calling to the Divine. Krishna explains that we lose when we act on our whims, which are based on ...

The role of faith in devotional service

by Dandavats.com

The role of faith in devotional service.
Faith is the unflinching confidence that upon attaining one thing — Krsna-bhakti — one is provided with all other desirable achievements. Absolute faith, unflinching faith, rests in Krsna-bhakti only. Faith in any other result or any other process will be unavoidably transient and ultimately disappointing. Attaining this faith rests upon guru-kripa, which includes very careful guidance and training. Similarly, one cannot move forward on this path while holding tightly to a bodily or a material concep...

Srila Prabhupada: My Guru Maharaja used to say that this material world is not fit for living for any gentlemen

by Dandavats.com

Srila Prabhupada: My Guru Maharaja used to say that this material world is not fit for living for any gentlemen. He used to say, “no gentlemen can live here.” So these things are not understood by the non-devotees, how much pinching this material world is. Unless one becomes detestful of this material world, it is to be understood that he has not yet entered in the spiritual understanding.

The Ghee Story

by Dandavats.com

Srila Prabhupada taught us that for cooking, clarified butter, known as Ghee is the only oil to use. At Henry Street Radha Govinda temple the cooks strictly followed that instruction. To make ghee you take unsalted butter–not vegan butter or margarine and slowly let it simmer for many hours. Eventually, the pure butter oil or ghee collects at the bottom of the pot and the impurities float to the top.

Perspectives on Time and Space

by Dandavats.com

Perspectives on Time and Space.
What do the Bhagavatam and Srila Prabhupada have to say about these universal concepts? At the beginning of his first book, Easy Journey to Other Planets, Srila Prabhupada writes, “Dedicated to the scientists of the world.” Perhaps it was Lord Krishna’s special plan that Srila Prabhupada’s first book be related to science, and space in particular. By this dedication, Srila Prabhupada is inviting scientists and any inquisitive thoughtful people to explore the s...

Attention! Don’t go down to the banks of the Yamuna and hear…

by Dandavats.com

The Flute Player of Vrindavan: Srimati Radharani, the eternal divine consort of Sri Krishna, is known as the Queen of Vrindavan. Vrindavan is where Krishna loves to be, because of Her love – and the love of all those who live there.
Vrindavan is at the center of the lotus of the spiritual world – no place is sweeter or more beautiful because it is saturated in the purest, most intimate love for Krishna. It is there that every word is a song, and every step is a dance. And the flute is Krishna’s constant companion.

Eat Well!

by Dandavats.com

All yogis are careful about what they eat…or at least they should be. Food is not only connected to our physical well being but also our karmic footprint. In general, we tend to be rather neglectful of karma, nature’s law of action and reaction. As humans, we imagine ourselves above the law, different from nature, and somehow immune to its rules.
But indeed, every single thing we do, every move we make, is not without its impact on our lives - now and in the future. Eating is an obvious and easy way to track this. We eat irresponsibly,...

“It’s All One”—Not! (A Vaishnava Response to Advaita Vedanta)

by Dandavats.com

a Dasa: Most systems of Indian philosophy endorse the notion that, in some sense, all living beings are one with God. Some would say that spiritual philosophy in general – East and West – is based on the premise of oneness, suggesting an ontological unity for all that is. The reasoning is straightforward: Since everything emanates from God, and since God is absolute, then His emanations partake of His essential nature, even if they exist in temporary forgetfulness.* Thus, ultimate spiritual vision, according to this line of thought, b...
