We read a BBT publication before joining Iskcon. We learn of inner tranquillity, peaceful coexistence and divine vaisnava qualities. After we join, we often discover a world of hard-hearted Bhakti in practice. Iskcon has softened up recently, but if we retain Westernised versions of renunciation and jnana, then our pursuits into devotee care and welfare will mean little to us

The Bhagavad Gita however should not be taken just as a 'Holy Book' of the Hindus or 'A Gem in Eastern Philosophy' or an 'Indian Ideology'.This Great scripture is the MANUAL for every living entity and does not promote a sectarian outlook

By Vrndavanlila Devi Dasi We had just got down from Faluknama Express and ran frenziedly to enquire about the next train taking us to Mayapur. It was a passenger train which took us to Nabadwip Station. By the time we reached there it was pretty late at night and no boats were available to ferry us across to Sridham Mayapur. We decided to spend the night at Station Retiring room

I don't think anyone in ISKCON doubts the importance Srila Prabhupada gave to preaching. Like his own spiritual master, Srila Prabhupada considered preaching - or outreach, as we tend to call it these days - proof that ISKCON was alive and well. "Preaching is our real business, preaching and distributing books. If your preaching work is strong, then your management of temple affairs will also become automatically very strong. Just like if the head wills it, the hand will move. Preaching is like the head of our KC Society - if the head is removed, the whole body dies." (Letter, December 8, 1971)

I remember, in my first few days in ISKCON, I had asked someone about how mrdangas were made and where were they made. Clearly, I was not satisfied with the answer and always thought, one fine day, I will get into the details. Surely enough, I now know, our performance of sankirtan all over the world is tainted with the blood of slaughter!

Once my friends used to tell me that there is a key which can unlock the Bible, and they hinted that some priests here or there might have that secret key. But actions speak louder than words. How could I believe either my friends or their teachers when their behavior told me that they do not pursue the teachings of the Holy Book they claim to follow? Nobody can understand the Bible unless his life is absorbed in sattvic qualities

Having now studied the Srimad Bhagavad ā Gita for well nigh over twenty five years, and striving to draw out every nuance of meaning and content from it, I refuse to believe that Lord Krishna was so ignorant or short sighted or not intelligent enough to have been directly responsible for creating the disparities and social injustices of traditional Indian society, based on the caste system

We all hate to be humiliated. What is the best defence against humiliation? It is humility. But our self-defence can assume false guises of humility, to fit our self-centred identity. We may be disappointed to discover that there is actually a Supreme Being other than ourselves. We are not the centre of the universe

If you don't mind, I will take a few minutes of your precious time to address the issue of double- voice amplification kirtans in the Mayapur temple room. Mayapur is, after all, the "home base" temple for all members of the International Society for Krishna Consciousness; it is our world-heardquarters. We should all feel concerned and connected to the Mayapur project, especially now that the new temple is under construction

By Narada Priya devi dasiThe question about whether women should become initiating spiritual masters or not has been raised. Some speculate about what to call her-- "Maharani", instead of "Maharaja"? "Jaya Guru devi", instead of "Jaya Gurudeva"? Hearing all this, I am thinking, "Why change anything? Didn't Srila Prabhupada say not to introduce anything 'new'? Prabhupada didn't make women sannyasis while on the planet, so why should he favor female diksha guruship?"

The Deities in the temple before they built temple were facing the opposite direction they are now when right before Mr Nair died he said 'if they do not leave the land I will take a rock and smash that Krsna's face'. Devotees often quote a lecture by Srila Prabhupada where he said that even if they were seventy percent surrendered; Krsna will still take them back to Godhead. During this lecture, Srila Prabhupada was speaking on how one has to be one hundred percent surrendered. At the end of the class, he noticed the devoteeās disappointment that they will not be able to make the standard

By Mayapur.tvThe dÄ«na-nÄthas, or devotees of Lord KrĢ£sĢ£nĢ£a, who preach the path of devotional service, become the favorites of the demigods. Generally people are interested in worshiping the demigods, especially Lord Åiva, in order to obtain material benefits, but a pure devotee, who engages in preaching the principles of devotional service, as prescribed in the ÅrÄ«mad-BhÄgavatam, does not need to separately worship the demigods; the demigods are automatically pleased with him and offer all the blessings within their capacity

By Giriraj SwamiWe welcome you on the auspicious occasion of Sri Gaura-purnima, the appearance day of the Supreme Personality of Godhead, Sri Krsna Caitanya. We are gathered here in the most holy abode of the Supreme Lord at the feet of the Panca-tattva. According to tattva, or ontological truth, Krsna is the Supreme Personality of Godhead in His original form. And the same Krsna who appeared five thousand years ago as the son of Nanda Maharaja and Yasoda Mayi appeared again five hundred years ago as the beautiful son of Jagannatha Misra and Sacidevi--Sri Krsna Caitanya...
