How the “kitchen religion” uses food for good!

by Administrator
By Amy Fallon

For many devotees, the journey involving Krishna consciousness often begins with food. “If you come here and you’re hungry, we’ll feed you – no problem,” says Ajita Cozzi, 57, the director of New Govardhana, a lush 400-hectare site that is Australia’s largest Hare Krishna farm. It's located in the village of Eungella in northern NSW. Followers of The International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON), founded in 1966, sometimes referred to their movement as the “kitchen religion”. It makes sense when you see how Hare Krishnas, who adhere to a lacto-vegetarian diet, dish ...

How Robert Kennedy heard the holy names shortly before departing this world

by Administrator
Hare KrishnaBy Bhusaya dasa

“Wait a minute,” Ginsberg told him. “I wanted to sing you the Hare Krishna mantra. Can you stay and listen? It’ll just take one minute.” After Kennedy agreed, Ginsberg pulled out his harmonium. “He has this one-tone mouth harp, so he blows his note on that – what’s the sound? Mmmmmmmmmmgggg?” Edelman recalled. Ginsberg chanted two choruses. “I think Kennedy was kind of … I don’t know if it was delighted or amused,” Greenfield recalled. “I thin...

Good news, Maharaj's dependency on the ventilator has continued to go down, and has now been lowered it to 50%. Once these levels are down to 20% Maharaj can be taken off the ventilator. Another positive update: We had been requesting the team of doctors at the hospital to give Maharaj convalescent plasma, which is plasma that contains antibodies from people who have recovered from COVID19. Govindas Dublin Reopens After 250,000 Refurb!

by Administrator
By Praghosa dasa

A big new phase for ISKCON Dublin was completed this Sunday with the reopening of the very popular Govindas restaurant on Abbey Street With so many things happening over the last number of years our restaurant was a little neglected and as it was already a little jaded when we took it over 15 or more years ago, it really needed some tender loving care (and quite a chunk of laxmi!) I think you can see from the pictures that it was a job well done and well worth the investment Also with a new cook at the helm the prasadam is much improved too, something all our returning customers noted even...

The Wild Pursuit of Bliss Inside East Dallas’ Kalachandji’s Temple

by Administrator
By Eve Hill-Agnus

Driving down Graham Avenue, past a taqueria and fruteria, toward the tangle of freeways that loop around Old East Dallas, you might notice an elaborate cupcake of a building. It rises improbably out of a neighborhood of single-family homes, blocks of houses with crumbling foundations. This is the Radha Kalachandji Hare Krishna temple. Many know it for the fire it survived in 2012 or, more likely, for its buffet-style Indian restaurant. The latter is the most visited vegetarian enclave in town, a courtyard oasis prized for its tranquility and tamarind tea.

Huge celebrations in Iskcon Brooklyn and new positive legal developments!

by Administrator
By Yasoda-dulal Das

Friday: There were kirtans, three talks on Krishna (three!!) during the evening, a play, bathing of the Deities, and grand darshans. A new concept they tried out was a block party outside the temple from 4 to 9 pm, even while the festivities happened inside. It was complete with stage and sound system for kirtans, and tents for distribution of Prabhupada's books and prasad, as well as one for painting gopi dots on passersby. The block party was universally acknowledged to be a hit, with lots of curious passersby and devotees impacted by it favorably.

Sunday Times Celebrates ISKCON UK’s 50th Anniversary

by Administrator
By Nicholas Hellen

With the release of The White Album, the Beatles were at the peak of their fame, and, as Gurudas puts it, "were being submerged by self-proclaimed Messiahs". When he and six other devotees attempted to make contact, their gifts, including a wind-up toy apple that played the Hare Krishna mantra, were binned by the band's gatekeepers. Their luck changed when the American rock band the Grateful Dead came to meet the Beatles in London and their manager invited one of the devotees, Shyamasundar Das, to accompany them. However, two members of the Hell's Angels motorcycle gang were also part ...
