ISKCON Delhi got another opportunity to conduct a kirtan, bhajan, discourse and Gita distribution program in Tihar Jail (New Delhi) No. 3. A small alter was set up and the program inaugurated with Kirtan, which relaxed the inmates. They sang in response and after a bit of hesitation, started to dance with the devotees. They enjoyed the dancing kirtan (towards the end) the most.
Inmates eagerly took heed of the spiritual message of the Gita and the importance of the Holy Name as was delineated in the discourse. They promised to regularly read the Bhagavad Gita and chant the Hare Krishna Mahamantra.
While handing out, the inmates rushed to get their copy of the Gita with great excitement. We distributed Gitas to each inmate and kept the rest in their library. The jail staff too received the Gita and enjoyed the Kirtan.
