In response to so many inquiries, I would like to update everyone on the condition of Bhojadeva Prabhu.
First, on behalf of Bhojadeva Prabhu, I would like to express heartfelt thanks for the prayers and words of encouragement that have come in from the devotees all around the world. These kind offerings have been a constant source of strength for him. We read them to him daily. I would like to also thank those generous souls who have sent financial help so far. Bhojadeva Prabhu does not have medical insurance and the medical bills that he is facing are quite daunting.
We arrived in Bangkok on the 24th after a 2 ½ hour flight from Kolkata. The flight was somewhat stressful for Bhojadeva and he begun to bleed and discharge CSV fluid from the nose. Bhojadeva Prabhu was admitted into one of the best hospitals in Asia. Immediately the doctors began a series of x-rays, a CT scan and cultures.
On the physical side, all of the original stitches from the shrapnel wounds have been removed and the smaller wounds are healing nicely. It is amazing how quickly he is recovering. This can only be due to the sincere prayers being made to Lord Sri Krsna by the Vaishnavas.
On Friday night it was determined that his arm was free of any infection, thus he underwent 3 hours of surgery to repair the broken bones in his left hand, and skin grafts were placed on his hand and arm. The doctor finished all of the work in this one surgery and he feels quite positive about Bhojadeva’s recovery. He says with proper rehabilitation the left arm/and should regain 90% of its original strength.
A blood test revealed a slight blood infection that is being treated with antibiotics. This and the swelling on his face postponed the reconstructive surgery for his face. The doctors have said that he will need metal plates installed to support the healing of the multiple fractures in his cheek bones. It is possible that he will need bone grafts to repair the orbital or right eye socket as it was broken and pushed back by the explosion. The doctors are hopeful that this surgery can take place within a week or two. The most serious situation still is that of his right eye. The Ophthalmologist feels that he will lose most of the vision in his right eye and at this point there is not much that can be done other than adopt a wait and see approach. Please join us in praying to Lord Nrsimhadeva so that his eye can recover.
For myself, Jivanmukta dasa and Sacirani devi dasi we feel that Bhojadeva Prabhu’s recovery, so far, has been nothing short of a miracle, a blessing from Lord Sri Krsna, Srila Prabhupada and the prayers of the devotees. Especially considering how seriously he was injured.
Today, the 27th, about 20 of the devotees here in Bangkok visited Bhojadeva in the hospital. He regularly gives class at programs here and is very dear to the local Vaisnavas. Everyone here is praying for his rapid recovery. The devotees here are bringing lots of prasadam everyday and Bhojadeva prabhu’s appetite is gradually increasing.
I will try to write a complete report on the entire incident that took place in Manipur asap. Thank you again for all of you prayers and support.
I have attached two photos, one of Bhojadeva prabhu recovering in his Bangkok hospital room on Aug. 27th. I have also attached a photo of Bhojadeva’s bead bag. His bead bag remained on his hand until he went into surgery. Lord Jagannatha and the Maha Mantra protected his hand and subsequently his heart from the blast. There was only one tiny hole near the top. It took Jivanmukta dasa almost ten minutes to wash the blood out. We have started calling it the bead bag of iron.
