United People of the Spiritual World was established in 1994. It is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit religious corporation based on the age old spiritual principles taken from spiritual books like Bhagavad Gita; specifically ‘Bhagavad Gita As It Is’ translated by His Divine Grace A. C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabupada. Prabupada established the International Society for Krishna Consciousness in 1966 for the re-spiritualization of society; that means human society all over the world. At present human society is being governed in a materialistic way. This is opposite and backwards to spiritual culture. Materialistic people become greedy and wicked whereas spiritual minded people who follow the spiritual culture called Vedic Culture, are peaceful, loving to one another and are striving for the goal of life, that being, love of God or (Krishna). Krishna is the personal name for God given in the Vedas; the scriptures of the universe.
United People of the Spiritual World was established in the Baldwin Hills Crenshaw District and we accept South Central Los Angeles as our area for propagating Krishna Consciousness. Krishna Consciousness is understood as our original consciousness before we fell into the material creation and accepted physical bodies which cover our original spiritual bodies, spiritual senses, spiritual mind, spiritual intelligence and spiritual ego. Spiritual ego translates as; I am a servant of (Krishna) or God. Bodily ego or material ego translates into; I am a physical body, which is misidentification; and there is the problem. To solve this problem we have to be educated in the philosophy of Bhagavad Gita, which is the knowledge, spiritual activity and lifestyle taught by Krishna 5000 years ago in the Bhagavad Gita. His Divine Grace A. C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada is a devotee of Krishna, the speaker of the Bhagavada Gita; therefore Prabhupada, being pure in heart can understand what Krishna means when he speaks. Non-devotees cannot understand because of their impure condition under the influence of matter and the physical body living in the material creation. They tend to speculate and say ‘maybe, quite possibly or probably’. One cannot arrive at the truth like that. We have to follow a disciplic succession where the truth is handed down from God, Krishna to a spiritually minded person dedicated to the service of God; and who will not change anything, but keep it, ‘As It Is’. Such a line comes down through the disciplic succession to His Divine Grace A. C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada who established the International Society for Krishna Consciousness in the western countries, which is popularly known as the Hare Krishna movement because we chant the Hare Krishna mantra: Hare Krishna Hare Krishna Krishna Krishna Hare Hare Hare Rama Hare Rama Rama Rama Hare Hare. This mantra is a spiritual frequency that purifies the consciousness and brings us back to our original consciousness which makes us the best of human beings because we follow the instructions of God (Krishna). So the idea is to propagate the knowledge and practice of Krishna Consciousness in South Central Los Angeles and all over the world so people can become devotees of Krishna, God, the originator of Vedic Culture. When human beings follow nicely, then all other living beings will benefit.
UPSW was established by Clifton L. Billings, a disciple of His Divine Grace A. C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Phabhupada for 36 years. He has been trained very strictly on the philosophy and lifestyle of Krishna Consciousness. His spiritual initiated name is, Krishna Bhavana Dasa, which translates into ‘the servant who is fixed in devotion to Krishna’. He has established a health consciousness business called, Mr. Wisdom Specialty Health Foods, to raise funds and has mortgages on two fixer-upper buildings. Construction on the buildings has been ongoing for the past twenty years and both mortgages are about $1,000 per month each. This amount has been paid for seventeen years on an adjustable loan, so over $200,000 has been paid and almost $100,000 is still owed on a building which cost $150,000 in 1995! One mortgage has come to maturity and has to be paid up or refinanced. The building is under construction as a restaurant and gift shop for raising funds but plans and permits have not been fully granted because the city has been procrastinating. So some rapid help is needed before the mortgage company takes away the building in September 2012. Kindly bless us and help us secure this building because the whole project is in danger.
