Bahulashtami Pastimes lecture at ISKCON Towaco, Parsippany, USA

In this lecture, Devakinandana Prabhu explores the significance of Bahulashtami and the month of Kartika, emphasizing its special spiritual benefits. He explains that during Kartika, all devotional activities yield unlimited rewards, encouraging devotees to engage fully in Krishna Consciousness. Prabhu compares this to a “discount month,” where all spiritual activities are magnified, whether it’s chanting, visiting temples, or giving charity. He warns that sins also multiply, urging devotees to avoid any sinful actions.

Prabhu narrates several pastimes of Lord Krishna, particularly those connected to Radha-Damodara and the love-filled exchanges between Krishna and Radharani. He shares the story of Radharani’s loving jealousy when Krishna was delayed by Chandravali, highlighting the intense affection and unique relationship dynamics in Vrindavan. Prabhu explains that Radharani ultimately bound Krishna to a Kadamba tree, symbolizing her deep love for Him.

Additionally, Prabhu describes Krishna’s pastime with Arishtasura, the demon bull, whom He rebuked and ultimately defeated, demonstrating His power and protection over Vrindavan. He recounts how Krishna’s lifting of Govardhan Hill on His left hand symbolized His loving care for His devotees, as well as His supremacy.

Prabhu also speaks of Raghunath Das Goswami, who restored Radhakunda with humility and devotion. Although a wealthy devotee offered funds for this purpose, Raghunath felt guilty for even desiring wealth, displaying his deep renunciation and surrender.

Devakinandana Prabhu concludes by affirming that all activities in Kartika month should bring us closer to Krishna, as this blessed time allows devotees to deepen their bond with the Lord and seek His embrace through continuous devotional practice.
