The overall purpose is to define the structure and operation of the RGB in governing ISKCON in North America.)
The North American Regional Governing Body (RGB) is structured to support the International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON)’s goals in several ways.
First, the RGB’s purpose is to increase coordination and implementation of preaching strategies and policies set forth by the ISKCON Governing Body Commission (GBC) in North America. The RGB acts as the primary contact point between North American ISKCON and the GBC and its Executive Committee. The RGB makes recommendations to the GBC for legislation and to officials within North America on ISKCON matters.
Second, the RGB seeks to unify North America as a single region comprised of five contiguous zones, each with a GBC Zonal Secretary, Zonal Supervisor, and Temple President. This structure ensures leadership and management consistency across the region.
Third, the RGB is composed of individuals representing various levels of ISKCON leadership: five GBC Zonal Secretaries, five Zonal Supervisors, five Temple Presidents, and three North American Ministers. Zonal Supervisors are nominated by GBC members and approved by a vote of the five GBC members. The Temple Presidents are elected by their peers in their respective zones. This structure allows for representation of different perspectives and expertise in decision-making.
Fourth, the RGB has clearly defined roles and responsibilities for its members, ensuring that tasks are performed effectively and efficiently. The RGB is also responsible for creating and managing an annual budget and providing financial reports to North American temples, promoting transparency and accountability.
Finally, the RGB is responsible for resolving conflicts within North America beyond a single zone’s scope, handling complaints, and taking disciplinary actions against officials when necessary. This helps to maintain order and harmony within the organization. The RGB also works to connect ISKCON centers with support for child protection and leadership conduct.
Overall, the North American RGB’s structure is designed to facilitate communication, coordination, and collaboration among ISKCON leaders and members in North America, ultimately working towards achieving ISKCON’s goals of spreading Krishna consciousness.
