New Goloka Community Report for 2024 – Presented by HH Bir Krishna Goswami
Today, we have a special presentation by various devotees who are contributing to the New Goloka community. I’ll begin with some philosophy before introducing the presentations.
The International Society for Krishna Consciousness was founded by His Divine Grace A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada. Here in New Goloka, we’ve experienced tremendous growth since starting in 1982 with just three devotees. Today, this community is thriving and unique in its cooperative, loving atmosphere.
We’ve been described as the ‘United Nations of the Spiritual World,’ where devotees and followers from diverse backgrounds work together harmoniously. This mutual respect and enthusiasm for service are the secrets of our success. There’s no room for envy, racism, or sexism here—everyone has equal opportunities to serve.”
“My dear sons of the king, I am very much pleased by the friendly relationships among you. All of you are engaged in devotional service. I am so pleased with your mutual friendship that I wish you all good fortune. Now you may ask a benediction from me.”
This verse highlights the importance of cooperative service. Prabhupada’s commentary emphasizes that the Lord is pleased by mutual friendship and willing to award blessings to His devotees.
Temple Infrastructure and Expansions:
Construction updates include a new entranceway and a second floor with offices and meeting rooms.
The current temple space will be repurposed for Sunday School and other educational activities.
Deity Worship:
Deity worship has been a cornerstone of New Goloka for 40 years. Since 1985, there have been daily offerings (five per day) and elaborate festival arrangements. Devotees joyfully engage in these services, finding bliss even in seemingly small tasks like cleaning.
Harinaam and Book Distribution:
Harinaam in public spaces, such as Chapel Hill, has brought amazing experiences, including heartwarming interactions with locals.
Monthly book distribution efforts involve door-to-door visits and “smart boxes” placed in Indian stores, distributing thousands of books annually.
Educational and Community Programs:
Regular classes, including Bhagavad Gita and Śrīmad Bhāgavatam readings, are held both in-person and online via Zoom, offering flexible options for participation.
Sunday School and youth engagement programs foster spiritual growth among children. Activities include cleaning the temple, Kirtan, and educational games.
Devotee Care Initiatives:
A dedicated team provides support to senior and elderly devotees in the congregation.
Efforts are underway to create a system for elder care, ensuring all members feel valued and supported.
Cultural and Artistic Contributions:
Drama productions and cultural performances are being enhanced with upgrades to the temple hall, including a new stage, lights, and sound system.
Plans are underway for a professional auditorium performance in October 2025.
Gift Shop and Fundraising Efforts:
Improvements to the gift shop include modernizing the clothing section and introducing new, high-quality items.
A GoFundMe campaign is raising funds for essential projects, including the fabrication and installation of a new cart for festivals.
