Yadunath das: The generous devotees who helped land 26 2nd Avenue on its financial feet over a year ago have been maintaining the tirtha since then and I would like to publicly thank them once again. Because of their generosity, we are meeting our monthly expenses and can now move forward with plans to renovate the space.
The renovation entails reconstructing the interior so that it looks the way it did in the 1960’s when Srila Prabhupada was physically present there. Famed artist, sculptor and Prabhupada disciple, Adideva prabhu and his wife (and godsister) Siladitya mataji, have done extensive research reading all existing accounts, uncovering photographs, watching videos and interviewing devotees who were there, in order to get an accurate portrait of what the Matchless Gifts space looked like back then. After accumulating all that data, they got estimates from different contractors and settled on one who is both a professional contractor and a devotee. He has done a lot of very good work in New York at reasonable prices and is eagerly waiting to serve Prabhupada in this way.
The estimated cost of the renovations and overseeing of this project is $20,000. Now we are faced with the fun part of raising this money; so we appeal to you, the global ISKCON community, for your help in restoring “the place where it all began”- Prabhupada’s 1st western temple. This project is the vision of HH Radhanatha Swami and has the blessing of HH Romapada Swami, GBC for New York. Please consider making a donation, either through PayPal (which can be accessed from our website at http://krishnanyc.com/giving.
Soon, when pilgrims from literally all over the world come to pay their respects to 26 2nd Avenue, they will actually see what devotees saw in the 1960s and feel what it was like back then in this holy place. Please watch this 3 minute message from HH Radhanath Maharaja about the project and consider making a donation of any size.
