Gadi das: The lack of discrimination in regard to the Bollywood dance performance… ( which honestly wasn’t even that good), (as far as Bollywood dancing goes), and( who am I to be an expert on Bollywood dancing)?…. Anyway, does bollywood really have to start with a capital letter?
Well,… the lack of discrimation in regard to the bollywood dance…is grossly apparent. If we are considering bollywood dancing on the same level, say as classical vartnatyam dance, regarding them both as “cultural presentations”, well then, we have certainly lost our sense of finer discrimination….
Traditional Vedic entertainment was present during Krsna lila… Each evening Nanda Maharaja would bring in dancers, singers , muscians, and even comedians to entertain Krsna, and the Vrajavasis… Entertainment is natural, even required in human society. But if must uplift the soul…give it higher pleasure than ordinary daily life, and certainly not drag it down.
Rock and roll and rap” artists” are also part of our modern life, but they, like the bollywoodites, have nothing to do with upliftment of the higher human sentiments of human society. They push the energy downward into the body… They can only be considered a cultural phenomena in regard to the age of Kali…(I believe that word deserves a capital)….Are the sounds and message they carry in any way comparable to the sweet uplifting bhajans about Radha and Krsna? I say Oh No… (capitals correctly placed)
Would we ever allow rock and rap and mundane comedians to entertain us at our Rathayatras festivals? After all they are a “cultural presentation” too…are they not…?
I hope we have better discrimination than that.
Just because something comes from India, it is not necessarily spiritual, or culturally uplifting.
We really can’t afford to compromise what Srila Prabhupada has given us…not for any amount of money or temple support.
Better lock up the temples and go back on to the streets and start all over!!
In Hari Nam Sankirtana, ( and if any words deserve capitalization these do), we will always find pure happiness and protection. It cannot be found anywhere else.
Oh yea, by the way, I was on the old road show…and we ventured too far into the rock music, to the extent that we lost the upliftment, the presence of bhakti…and Srila Prabhupada was present for that performance, and stopped the whole thing…that was our last show…at the Syria Mosque in Pittsburg…we learned our lesson that day.
Well, here we are…you know…Murari’s Kirtan Valley….here we will never compromise…. And as always, begging for your attention, always on call…your servant in the service of His Divine Grace….Gadi das
