International Seminar on Implementation of Vedic Values for Hindus’ Character and Identity Building at STAH Dharma Nusantara University, Jakarta, Indonesia
Jakarta, January 11, 2014 was the second time for H.H. Subhag Swami Maharajaa invited by STAH (University of Hindu Religion) Dharma Nusantara to give a seminar. This time the University organized the seminar with a special topic “Implementation of Vedic Values for Hindus’ Character and Identity Building”. This topic was chosen because now days most of the Hindu’s lost their identity and walked out of the Vedic’s path. STAH as one of Hindu Religion University in Indonesia has great responsibility to implant the Vedic values to their students and their staffs in order they could guide people in general to attain life’s perfection.
As Srila A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada established the Gurukula system of education in many countries around the world to train students in Vedic knowledge for cultivation of values meant for ‘building character’ so that they become teachers who can guide the people in general to attain life’s perfection.
“Just try to learn the truth by approaching a spiritual master” STAH university took right step by inviting H.H. Subhag Swami Maharaja to be speaker in the seminar, because Vedic knowledge should be obtain through the right source. As Maharaja practices what Maharaja has received from Srila Prabhupada and from the scriptures. Maharaja firmly fixed in the understanding of the Absolute Truth or Supreme Spirit, brahma nistham.
The seminar was organized by STAH (University of Hindu Religion) Dharma Nusantara in coordination with Yayasan Institut Bhaktivedanta, Indonesia and Parishada Hindu Dharma, Indonesia (PHDI). Srila Prabhupada expressed,
“…it is nice that you are infiltrating into the schools and colleges. These are the best customers for our philosophy. Give them nice philosophy…” (letter: SPL to Danavir, 12 December,1971).
In another letter Prabhupada mentions,
“Actually, this roving sankirtana and college program is the most appropriate plan for spreading Krishna Consciousness and Preaching.” (SPL to Bhagavan das, December 10, 19071).
The rector of the University, Prof. Dr. Ir. I. Made Kartika D, along with the students formally welcomed H. H. Subhag Swami in Aditya Rawamangun hall which was almost full packed with around 250 delegates, mostly students and lectures of the University.
Maharaja began his seminar by presenting that all prominent scholars and scientists of the world accept the Vedas to be the oldest book of knowledge available to us. Maharaja also quoted from Bhagavad-gita, that we are not the body but the eternal and imperishable spirit. Intelligent persons therefore place more value on the spirit rather than the non-permanent body. Maharaja alaso quted Srila Prabhupada words that because people have no education in actual knowledge, they become irresponsible. To stop this irresponsibility, education for developing the mode of goodness of the people in general must be there. When they are actually educated in the mode of goodness, they will become sober, in full knowledge of things as they are. Then people will be happy and prosperous.Many raised questions during the question and answer session expressing their eagerness to learn from Maharaja. Maharaja smashed all their mundane ideologies through scholarly reasoning and captivated their hearts by beautiful analogies.
The seminar was covered by Local and Nasional Medias. After the seminr, Maharajaa was interviewed by TV reporter. Around 300 prasadam boxes and 199 books were distributed during the event. Maharaja personally gave special signature for those who purchased the books during the program. The staffs and students of the University including the rector were so much impressed that they feelingly approached Maharaja and submitted their request to him to kindly visit their University whenever he comes to Jakarta.
