Yesterday, Jasomatinandan Prabhu, myself, ISKCON Ahmedabad Vice President Vishnunam Prabhu, and ISKCON Baroda Vice President Nityananda Ram Das, paid a congratulatory visit to new Gujarat Chief Minister Anandiben Patel, to wish her well on assuming the post of Chief Minister of Gujarat.
Over the past 13 or so years, Anandiben has visited ISKCON Ahmedabad (she is from North Gujarat, as is India’s new Prime Minister, our former Chief Minister, Narendra Modi) at least 10 times!
We are hoping that Anandiben and her team will extend support to ISKCON’s rapidly expanding activities here in the State of Gujarat, where ISKCON now has centers at Ahmedabad, Baroda, Surat, Vallabh Vidyanagar (Anand), Rajkot, Bhavnagar, Jamnagar, and Dwaraka.
Also, we met our local Baroda MLA (member of the legislative assembly) and no the number two minister in the Anandiben Patel Cabinet, Sri Saurabh Patel. He is very friendly and favorable to ISKCON. He has taken prasad with us at ISKCON Baroda on at least two occasions since he became MLA here, last year, and also participated in the entire five hour procession during last year’s Jagannath Rathayatra festival. He must be a “plain clothes devotee”!
