Come one, come all to the 38th Annual Festival of Chariots at Gita Nagari Farm just about 7 miles south of Port Royal, PA! The festival is scheduled for July 26th from 11 am to 6 pm on this 350-acre organic farm in the heart of Pennsylvania.
The Festival of Chariots or Ratha Yatra is a 2,000-year-old festival from India, which was introduced to the United States in the 1970’s. It is a colorful display of culture, music, art, spirituality and vegetarian food. The International Society of Krishna Consciousness, a non-profit organization that promotes the well being of human society by teaching spiritual principles and values, sponsors the festival.
Start the day by browsing the vendors where you can find everything from Indian clothing to t-shirts, from books to jewelry as well as delicious vegetarian specialties. Tour our temple and the newly built and renovated Guesthouses, check out a milking demonstration, and maybe even take part in a log-sawing contest. Take a free carriage ride through the farm.
At 12 noon take part in the parade, where we will take Lord Jagannath on a tour of the farm. Help pull the Rath cart to the top of Govardhan Hill and afterward relax on the lawn while listening to music, observe a play or dancing. A free vegetarian feast will be served at 3 pm.
This is a wonderful opportunity for the whole family to relax and enjoy the bucolic Pennsylvania countryside. Bring your lawn chairs and/or blanket and prepare yourselves for a great day!
