 Ratha-yatra, or the Festival of Chariots, is a joyous event celebrated for thousands of years in the Indian holy city of Jagannatha Puri, and more recently by Hare Krishna devotees in cities around the world. Parade and Festival in Philadelphia
on September 23, 2006 The parade will begin at 12 noon near Love Park in Center City Philadelphia at 15th and JFK Boulevard. It will proceed from there down the Benjamin Franklin Parkway to Eakins Oval in front of the Philadelphia Museum of Art where the Festival of India will be held. The festival of India will begin at 1 PM at Eakins Oval in front of the Art Museum. It will include a free vegetarian feast, devotional and contemporary musical performances, Bharat Natyam dance performances, drama, booths recounting the philosophy of reincarnation, Bhagavad-Gita, Yoga, the Hare Krishna Movement, Indian clothing, food, and cultural gifts. It will last until 7:30 pm. |
